জীবন অনিশ্চিত, কখন ফুরোয় তার ঠিক নেই | অবসানের আগে লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছোনো চাই | লক্ষ্য ভগবানলাভ | তাঁকে পেলে নিজেকে পাওয়া হয়, শান্তি, স্থিতি, আনন্দ সব লাভ হয় | 

এ যুগে ভগবান স্বয়ং রামকৃষ্ণবিগ্রহ অবলম্বন করে মর্ত্যে অবতরণ করেছেন | তাই তাঁকে পাওয়ার পথ প্রশস্ত | তাঁর কৃপাবাতাস এখন খুব বইছে | মাত্র পাল তোলার অপেক্ষা | সে কাজ আমাদের | তাহলেই পালে হাওয়া লেগে হুহু করে সাগরে গমন | 

গঙ্গার ধারা আকাশ হতে গোমুখ হয়ে বিগলিতধারে প্রবহমান অনাদিকাল হতে সাগরের অভিমুখে | সেই বারিধারায় স্নাত হব | জীবন ধন্য হবে | অমর হব | তখনই বুঝব যে শরীর নই, মন নই, চিত্ত নই, অহংকার নই, সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহ দেবমূর্তি আমরা, বহুরূপে ভ্রমি সংসারবিদেশে স্মৃতিবিভ্রমবশতঃ | সেই বিস্মরণ দূর হবে রামকৃষ্ণপাদপ্দ্মে, যে চরণকমলে নরেন, রাখাল সব নিত্যযুক্ত, নিত্যমুক্ত তাই | 

আসুন, অবগাহন করি ওই ভাবগঙ্গায় যেথা আজ অক্ষরব্রহ্ম স্বপ্রকাশ বর্ণাক্ষরে ঠাকুরের দেবসাহিত্যে |

Editorial

Man is divine. But to say this is not enough. One must aver this in every movement of life. Instead of focussing our attention on the imperfect outside of man, we should view him from the standpoint of his inner divinity where he is in potential perfect, although such a state of being is as yet unmanifest in him. But it is but a matter of time. The inner effulgence is there under the cloud cover of desirous delusion which in time will dissolve to reveal the sun within. And how best to help manifest this latent possibility of man? It is by creating a congenial environment of mutual respect, cooperation and help, a camaraderie of spirits that encourages all to do their best for themselves and the world, encouragement and not denunciation, recognition of talent and its promotion, and, most importantly, honouring the greats and propagating their life and message. To this end we are daily publishing this Ganga of literature that will help manifest what is best in man.

বাঙালীর এক বিরাট অংশ স্বামীজীকে ভুলে গেছে | ভোগে ভরপুর, নাস্তিকতায় নিমজ্জিত, চাপল্যে চতুর্মুখ, যোগভ্রষ্ট বাঙালী---এঁদের স্বামীজীকে কি প্রয়োজন ? মার্ক্সের বুলি তো আছে, নচেৎ গোরার নকলে গোড়ায় গলদ ? বিপ্লব, গণসংস্কৃতি, নাচ, গান, কবিতা, নাটক, সিনেমা, সিরিয়াল, সেলফি, ফ্যাশন, ফচকিমি, চুটকি, চাতুর্যের রকমারি ভাণ্ডার, আরও কত কি ? এত আছে, আবার বিবেকানন্দ ? ওই হিন্দু প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল, খানিক প্রগতিশীল অদ্ভুত ধরণের এক মিশ্রমানব যাঁর মধ্যে প্রচুর রক্ষণশীল প্রগতিবিরোধী দিক আছে, যিনি এক প্রকার বিদ্যাসাগরের ন্যায় সেকিউলার মানুষের প্রগতিশীল চিন্তাভাবনা ও কর্মের ওপর সলিলার্পণ করেছেন এবং রামমোহনের কুসংস্কারবিরোধী প্রগতিশীল ভাবান্দোলনের বিরোধীতা করে বাংলা তথা ভারতকে সেই ধর্মীয় অচলায়তন রক্ষণের দিকে নিয়ে গেছেন ? তিনি তো সমাজে এক প্রকার বর্ণাশ্রমেরও প্রতিষ্ঠা চেয়েছেন, এ তো তাঁর বাণী ও রচনাতেই রয়েছে, তাই না ? শ্রেণী সংগ্রামের পথে তো বিবেকানন্দ বাধা | সমাজতান্ত্রিক গণ অভ্যূত্থানের পথে তাঁর ধর্মীয় রক্ষণশীলতার বাণী তো প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল | বিবেকানন্দের যুগ শেষ, এখন মার্ক্স-এঙ্গেল্স-লেনিন-স্টালিন-মাওএর যুগ, Warsaw Pactএর পতন সত্ত্বেও | 

বাঙালীর বিগত প্রায় শতবর্ষের এই ক্রমবর্ধমান বামপন্থী মনোভাব বিবেকানন্দকে করেছে ব্রাত্য | ফলে বাঙালী ক্রমশঃ হয়ে পড়েছে ক্ষীণজীবি, দুর্বল, ক্লীবতাপূর্ণ এক আত্মবিস্মৃত, আত্মঘাতী জাতি | অথচ, স্বামীজী নিজেই ছিলেন শ্রমজীবি মানুষের বন্ধু | আসলে, ইন্দ্রিয়পরবশ বামপন্থী বাঙালীর সমস্যা ওই ধর্মে, আস্তিক্যবুদ্ধিতে যা ভারতের সনাতন ঐতিহ্য ও নিরন্তর সাংস্কৃতিক ধারা | স্বামীজী আমেরিকা থেকে আলমবাজার মঠের গুরুভাইদের পত্রযোগে যথার্থই লিখেছিলেন, "দেখি, বাঙালীর ধর্ম কদ্দূর যায় |" কতদূর গেল, আপনার মতে ?

Thanks for pointing it out. The post, copy-pasted to a fault, was littered with errors. Have cleansed it of a lot of the inadvertent errors and will have to keep on filtering the same with drooping lids refusing to cooperate beyond a point. But I will clear the mistakes eventually for sure. They made rather bad reading when I, prompted by you, was attending to them.

You need to be brought to the fore and I am doing my wee bit towards that end. Your interpretations of Swamiji are excellent and your delivery inspiring. It's been a treat thus far to have heard you and I am adopting measures to make your videos more widely accessible to devotees by sharing them on many groups. This single-minded focus on Swamiji is unique on your part. Swami Ranganathananda, famous for his absolute devotion for Swamiji, has been beaten in this regard by you and that is no mean achievement, although arrived at unconsciously by you naturally, spontaneously. Your talks are so refreshingly different from the stereotypical speeches of the monks of the Ramakrishna Order that they have filled my life over the last few days ever since I discovered you online accidentally, nay, by Providential decree. Even the speaker needs to be deeper in delivery of his speech which comes from a meditative state of mind born out of austerity practised over decades till depth of personality and demeanour becomes one's first nature. A shallow audience claps at every point a speaker panders to the vanities of his audience by expressing some shallow stuff in the name of spiritual message being delivered. This is spiritual degradation that must be countered by heavy reading of Swami Vivekananda's Complete Works and living one's life in accordance with it. 🕉

I have not in my life seen any monk so closely approximate the thought of Swamiji, and this I say in spite of having heard Swami Ranganathananda who was so manifestly devoted to the teachings of Swamiji. Indeed, you remain in my experience a singular case of total adherence to Swamiji's thought and, yet, creatively so, just as Swamiji wanted. Ranganathanandaji is full of other people's thought, quotations from their works and not very original at that which is not what Swamiji ever wanted his followers, of anyone as such, to be. You, however, fulfil the requirements and stand out as a singular case of creative interpretation of Swamiji without sacrificing a bit of his message to accommodate social currencies. 🕉

Alas, the commoner can scarce understand this for he is devoid of such sense even more for genuine musicians to befriend his ears! And this is what the shudra yug brings upon the world, the decline of culture and the flourishing of mediocrity. One feels like remaining restrained to medieval musical excellence, artistic expression of a sublime kind than being hurled onto modern masquerades of pristine art forms. I have heard this gentleman to my horror and cannot avoid him at any rate for he pollutes each and every programme of the Ramakrishna Mission with his discordant renditions which are simply earsore for the likes of me. I know of one exquisite singer who alone has agreed with me on this point, one who literally walked off from a programme at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture where the said singer with his discordance had offended the refined musical sensitibiliy of this lady. Alas, such are the times when fools galore applaud 'fools' that 'rush in where angels fear to tread'! But these are precipitous times of proletariat culture where the red end of the spectrum cannot be distinguished from its violet other end and impure spectrum goes by the name of the game to the delight of the groundlings and the dismay of the sophisticates. This is music and music indeed! 🕉

Sugata Bose @Saikat Haldar :, The Vedanta is Truth Itself. Hence, no question of higher or lower as stated. Empirical truths are not the highest. Truth in its abstract essence is so. Sachchidānanda or the Existence-Consciousness-Bliss triune in its seamless transcendental integration is the highest, and this is not a material entity such that one may aver its relative phenomenal position. 🕉

Sugata Bose @YouTube [Ramakrishna Mission Kalyani---Swami Ishātmānanda] : Maharaj has oversimplified Mother's power as love. There are other dimensions to her power which have gone unmentioned. She was not merely an exceptional mortal or even a living-free being but was the infinite primeval power encapsulated in mortal coil which must not be lost sight of. It seems Maharaj has said it the way he has to inspire his lay audience and, so, kept things rather simple for easy understanding. The real truth about Mother (Sri Sarada Devi) is profoundly complex and beyond ordinary comprehension, perhaps even extraordinary understanding. Hence, the ploy to bring Mother home to her child by resorting to the common concept of love which may be understood---should it be so necessary---in higher dimensions as well. But householders are apt to misunderstand this way and cut Mother short to their truncated human terms which will belie the fact that Mother's power which so shook Swami Brahmānanda was not just love but something much more which they felt as emanating in spontaneous vibrational transmission from her. Hence, the awe-inspired reaction of Vivekananda, Brahmānanda, Premānanda and the like in Mother's presence. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Cheenmoy Saha : A good Muslim has to be a Mushrik-hater. This is the injunction on the Momin (Muslim) by the Qur'an. A Momin must either convert or kill the Mushrik. And the Hindu is a Mushrik (polytheist). 

Allah does not forgive the Mushrik. The Mushrik supposedly allows partners to Allah in his polytheistic worship of God. And this is an unpardonable sin in Islam, the very worst of sins which must be dealt with either conversion or death. 

The Momin is one who has submitted to Allah and His commandments. Hence, he necessarily must be a Mushrik-hater, that is, in this case, a Hindu-hater. 

Sheikh Mujib's infamous role in precipitating Partition through the carrying out of a Hindu genocide is a well-documented fact and it is sheer indolence and irrational stubbornness on the part of detractors of Hindutva and deniers of history that has brought the Islamic genocidal discourse to this state of easy suppression and the foisting of make-believe narratives of sweeter disposition on the masses so that they may never awake to the truth, the horror of Islamic genocidal oppression in Bharatvarsha for nearly 1400 years. 🕉

Swamiji's clarion call, "Arise! Awake!", resounded to the depths of the boy Basanta as he kept up every night in expectation of the nightwatchman's call, "Jāgtey raho!" ("Keep awake!"), sounded to his fellow watchman as they jointly guarded the streets in the dead of night. In the latter years of his adolescence these early impressions quickened the lad's renunciation as he quit hearth and home to follow his Master to the ends of the earth to distant America. 

America and India are strangely tied in a common knot by the Sage of the Age, Swami Vivekananda. Basanta became Paramānanda and accompanied Swami Abhedānanda to America to nurture the sapling of the Vedanta planted there by Swamiji. Many swamis preached in the West, notably, Abhedānanda who propagated the Vedanta for a full 25 years before he took up permanent residence in motherland India, Turiyānanda who founded the Shānti Āshrama in North California, Sāradānanda who after a brief stint in the West came back to bear the mantle of the General Secretary of the Order, Trigunātitānanda who after starting 'Udbodhan', the Bengali monthly organ of the Ramakrishna Mission, went over to USA and built the first ever Hindu temple in the West at San Francisco. Swami Nirmalānanda, another direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, also went over to Brooklyn, I am told, and served there for a few years before returning to India. 

Thereafter, the second and third generation monks of the Order in Paramānanda, Ashokānanda who became the Guru of Marie Louise Burke, the authoress of 'Swami Vivekananda in the West---New Discoveries', Prabhavānanda who became the Guru of Christopher Isherwood, the celebrated author and biographer of Ramakrishna, Nikhilānanda who translated into English 'Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathāmrita', dubbing it 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna', Pavitrānanda, Bodhānanda, Vividishānanda, Satprakāshānanda, Asheshānanda, Swāhānanda, Sarvagatānanda, Akhilānanda, Tathāgatānanda, Chetanānanda, the author of umpteen books on the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda movement, Tyāgānanda and others have nurtured the sapling unto the plant that it is today. But the Vedanta work has never quite taken off as it did during Swamiji's time when he literally stormed the citadels of heaven, so to say, and released the fountain of supernal bliss and knowledge transcendental unto the children of the Occident, weary of the material life and athirst for a sublimation of their sensate lives. 

The world has moved on and despite the proliferation of cheaper forms of Indian yoga especially in USA, there has been not significant growth of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda-Vedanta movement in the West, although organisations like ISKCON have flourished among the commoners. This is where we stand and I guess this has partly to do with the relative lack of awareness about Ramakrishna-Vivekananda among the western masses that the progress of the said movement has slackened. Here work needs to be done, and it is with this intent that a handful of us have taken upon us the onerous task of bearing to the world the sublime message of the divine duo, an integrated being in Niveditā's estimation, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda. 🕉

সঙ্ঘ, অর্থাৎ, সম্মিলিত শক্তি | স্বামীজী বলেছেন এই 'সঙ্ঘ' বস্তুটি জড় নয়, এর চৈতন্যসত্তা আছে যা কিনা এর মুখ্যরূপ, স্বরূপ | আধ্যাত্মিক আগ্রহে অনুপ্রাণিতজনের সম্মেলনেই সঙ্ঘ, তাই তার আধ্যাত্মিক সত্তা বিদ্যমান | এটি বুদ্ধেরও ভাব | তাই 'সঙ্ঘং শরণং গচ্ছামি' | আজ 'বহুযুগের ওপার হতে' যে আপাতবেদবিরোধী বৌদ্ধবৈদিক ভাব ভেসে এসেছে দক্ষিণেশ্বর, কাশীপুর, বরাহনগর, আলমবাজার, নীলাম্বর বাবুর বাগান ঘুরে বেলুড় মঠে---কারণ, ভুললে চলবে না বেদমন্ত্র 

'সংগচ্ছধ্বং সংবদধ্বং সংবো মনাংসি জানতাম্।

সমানো মন্ত্রঃ সমিতিঃ সমানী সমানাং মন সহচিত্তমেষাম্।

সমানী ব আকুতি সমানা হৃদয়ানি ব:।

সমানমস্তু বো মনো যথা ব: সুসহাসতি॥'

---তা বস্তুত কোনও জড় পদার্থ নয়, না তা জড়ের প্রকাশ | এই রামকৃষ্ণ সঙ্ঘ---ত্রুটিবিচ্যূতি স্বীকার করে নিয়েও---সম্মিলিত চৈতন্যসঙ্ঘ যেখানে জগতের সর্বসমস্যা সমাধানের, সর্বরোগ নিরাময়ের মহৌষধি তৈরি হয়ে চলেছে সেই ঠাকুরের কাল হতে ও তার প্রয়োগও হয়ে চলেছে সেই ঠাকুরেরই কাল হতে | স্বয়ং শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর এই সার্বিক সেবার কাজ নিজ হাতে করে গেছেন, করে গেছেন নিশ্চুপে পরম প্রেমে মা'ঠাকরুণ, করেছেন স্বামীজী তাঁর জীবনপাত করে, করেছেন ঠাকুরের সাক্ষাৎ পার্ষদেরা, সন্ন্যাসী ও গৃহী উভয়েই, আর করেছেন প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম মঠের সাধুভক্তরা প্রায় নিশ্চুপে, নিরবে, শিশিরবিন্দু যেমন ঊষালগ্নে মৌনমননে পুষ্পপ্রষ্ফুটনে রত থাকে | আজ পরিস্থিতির অনেক অবনতি ঘটলেও কার সাধ্য ঠাকুর-মা-স্বামীজীর যুগধর্মপ্রবর্তনের অমোঘ ইচ্ছার গতি ফেরায় ? বিত্তবাসনারূপ বিপর্যয় তো হয়েছে, হচ্ছে, অতি নির্লজ্জ প্রকটার সাথে আজ সঙ্ঘে পরিব্যাপ্ত কিন্তু তৎসত্ত্বেও এহো বাহ্য | নদী তার আঁকাবাঁকা পথে সাগরের দিকেই যাবে, এর নাম রামকৃষ্ণাকর্ষণ | প্রেমপাথার ঠাকুর তাঁর সঙ্ঘকে পার্থিব বিষয়বক্রতার মধ্য দিয়েও সেই জগতকল্যাণকল্পেই এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবেন | উত্থানপতনের মধ্য দিয়েই অগ্রসর হবে এই সঙ্ঘ ঠাকুর-মা-স্বামীজীর ত্রিবেণীসংগমে অবগাহনের নিমিত্ত | মেঘে সূর্য ঢাকা পড়ে কিন্তু অল্পক্ষণের জন্য, চিরকালের জন্য নয় | ঠাকুরের পূর্ণবৈরাগ্যে আর কোনদিন ফিরতে চাইবে কিনা, পারবে কিনা সঙ্ঘ তা ভবিষ্যৎ বলবে কিন্তু তারই মধ্যে যাঁরা ঠিক ঠিক বৈরাগ্যবান, তাঁরা ঠাকুরের অমৃতসত্তা পাবেন | আজও বৈরাগ্যবান আছেন কেউ কেউ যাঁরা নাম, যশ, সম্পত্তি, প্রতিপত্তি, কিছুই চান না, শুধু ওই রামকৃষ্ণচরণ চান | এঁরাই গৃহে, মঠে, মাঠে, প্রান্তরে, নগরে, গাঁয়ে গেয়ে চলেছেন ওই সঙ্ঘগান 

'সংগচ্ছধ্বং সংবদধ্বং সংবো মনাংসি জানতাম্।

পরমহংস শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণদেব স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে আধ্যাত্মিক উচ্চ অবস্থান থেকে মর্ত্যলোকে নামিয়ে এনেছিলেন লোককল্যাণকল্পে | এ কথা আমরা ঠাকুরের জবানবন্দিতে পাই | একদিন ধ্যানে ঠাকুরের মন যথাযথভাবে উচ্চ থেকে উচ্চতর অবস্থায় আরোহণ করে | স্বরূপ হতে অরূপে যাওয়ার পথে দেবদেবীর আবাসভূমি অতিক্রম করে ক্রমে এক কুয়াশাঘন অতিন্দ্রিয় জ্ঞানলোকে প্রবেশ করে যা দ্বৈত ও অদ্বৈতের সন্ধিস্থল | সেখানে দেবদেবীদেরও প্রবেশ নিষিদ্ধ কিন্তু সেখানে দেখলেন সাতজন ঋষিকে সমাধিমগ্ন | এমন সময়ে সেই ঘন অধ্যাত্মকুয়াশা হতে রূপ নিল এক অপূর্বদর্শন দেবশিশু | শিশু ওই সাতজনের একজনের গলা জড়িয়ে তাঁকে বলে, "আমি যাচ্ছি, তুমি এসো |" ওই দেবস্পর্শে ঋষির সমাধিবুত্থান ঘটে ও অর্ধনিমীলিত নেত্রে তাঁর আরাধ্য ওই শিশুটির দিকে তাকিয়ে মৌন ঋষি স্মিত সম্মতি জানান, তৎপরে পুনরায় সমাধিমগ্ন হয়ে যান | ঋষির দেহমন হতে যৎসামান্য অংশ জ্যোতিরূপ ধারণ করে মর্ত্যলোকের পথে অবতরণ করে |" ঠাকুর বললেন, "নরেনকে দেখেই চিনেছি, এই সেই ঋষি |"
