THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT ... 1
THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT ... 1
Vladimir Putin must withdraw his forces forthwith. Otherwise, the war in Ukraine escalates into WW III and we are dead as a species. Right now we are at the crossroads of history. Our existence as a species is threatened like never before with a cataclysmic nuclear war looming large in the horizon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, THAKUR !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, THAKUR !
We are fourteen years away from the bicentenary of Sri Ramakrishna's divine descent on earth. Today he completes 186 years of his terrestrial life, so to say. Belur Math, its branch centres worldwide and innumerable private ashrams are observing his holy birth-tithi today. We offer our prostration at his lotus feet, our veneration of his divine personality and our commitment to his cause, the cause of the spiritual awakening of humanity, the transformation of mankind en masse.

AS BRUTALITY REIGNS ... 3
AS BRUTALITY REIGNS ... 3
Man continues to fight man as if humanity is divided into different species. The sense of separateness seems deep-rooted as the people of a common human inheritance divide themselves into artificial, superficial, separate units, calling them nations which then pursue individual conflicting dreams in a world of terrible contradictions stemming from what is termed 'limited means and unlimited ends'. Dreams are sky-high, desires endless, but the means of organic satisfaction constricted in inverse proportion. Hence, gratification at the physical level invariably leads to conflict of oneself with others, of one group with another, of one nation with another. At the animal level this contradiction is rudely sorted out by evolutionary principles, the struggle for survival, natural selection and the survival of the fittest. But at the human level this leads to wanton destruction of life and property, desecration of culture and civilisation, and immeasurable suffering entailed on humankind. Such has been human history thus far and such is its inertial continuance even unto this day when we witness the Russian bully pounding innocent Ukrainians in its bid to impose its territorial hegemony.

AS BRUTALITY REIGNS ... 2
AS BRUTALITY REIGNS ... 2
Must might always be right? If evil reigns it is as much the fault of miscreants and warmongers as it is that of the so-called good people who refuse to translate good intentions amply articulated into good deeds in a like proportion in real. Virtuous selfishness is as much a contributor to the evil that rules the world and retards civilisation as vicious selfishness. Virtue in European terms is connected to valour -- and it is good that it should be so -- but consciousness, unless clarified, cannot discern genuine good from evil in a world intimately interspersed with the twain.

AS BRUTALITY REIGNS ... 1
Greed for gold is annihilating humanity. It could spell the end of the human species. Unless a radical shift takes place in the way man approaches life, the prospects of survival of the human species are bleak. War is just the symptom, the tip of the iceberg. The causes are deep within. It is greed that has to be combated and its illegitimate offspring, the lust for power. The world must heed the message of eternal India as resonated and freshly articulated in the lives of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. Else, annihilation will be the end result.
