NETAJI IN RETROSPECT ... 1

The comprehensive manner in which Subhas Chandra Bose had envisaged Congress would develop free India was sadly belied even during his second term as Congress President when the Mahatma and his cronies plotted his downfall at Tripuri. This treacherous act of the politicians of the day, amongst which ranked the likes of Gandhi, Nehru and Patel, destroyed India for good. One wonders if these short-sighted saviours of the hour ever realized the extent of the damage they had done to India's future prospects when they had ousted Bose from the seat of power in such an unseemly fashion that posterity feels ashamed to think that these were their predecessors. One hears rumours that the Mahatma had rued his decision to promote Jawaharlal instead of Subhas, when close to independence, the former decided to go his own way and forced his will on the Mahatma where they differed on the issue of Partition and the acquisition of the prime position in the government of free India. It is said that Gandhi regretted not having Bose by his side then, although, by no means one is to understand that he had subscribed to Bose's so-called 'violence' and forsaken his much trumpeted 'non-violence'.
