MAKE THE STUDY OF SANSKRIT MANDATORY

The only way India may rise to her pre-eminence in world culture once more is by the study of Sanskrit. At the school and college levels the study of our ancient heritage language must be made mandatory. Then only will future generations know the glory that was India and then only will they take inspiration from the history of their forefathers and rebuild their glorious motherland along the lines laid down by their sages and saints, their seers and savants. India must manifest a national identity based on the Sanatan Dharma, that is, the spiritual principles enshrined in the Vedas and the Upanishads. When the lion-roar of the Vedanta will sound and resound through the hills and dales of India, the nation will awake. Then all that today beset the motherland will vanish into thin air like mist before the rays of the morning sun. "India will awake to life and freedom" but not along the lines thrust upon her by the British and their foster children, the successive governments at the Centre since Independence, but by following the blueprint of her development charted out by her perfected seers of yore and the modern ones such as Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. A virile movement is the need of the hour to awaken the sleeping mass of humanity inhabiting this great land, a spiritual current that will animate the masses and bring wholesome ideas of life and freedom to their very doorstep. The propagation of the mother language of Sanskrit will catalyse the people to such an energized state whence they will participate in mass transformation of the nation to provide for its development, defence and the unfolding of its divine destiny. The government of the day must take cognizance of this definite possibility and take effective steps to make it a reality. That indeed will be development which to all intents and purposes seems to be the real focus of the national agenda today.
