Through the turbidity of the times humanity is slowly advancing towards a higher end, that of the solidarity of humankind. Progress is unto the peace that has ever eluded man and the wisdom to see through the deception of Maya. The Divine Enchantress ever has the upper hand as She moves Her pawns as She wishes and humans, puppet-like, dance to Her tune in this phenomenal terrestrial play called terrestrial life.
The course of civilisation is tortuous and the disparate elements that make up humanity are so widely separated in position and perspective that harmony is well-nigh impossible till a higher level of evolution be reached. Here Sri Aurobindo becomes pertinent in terms of his thesis of the dawning supra-mental consciousness but whether such a yoga-enforced up-gradation of human consciousness has been possible through his 'sadhana' (austerity-cum-spiritual practice) or is likely to be in the foreseeable future is either a matter of faith for devotees of his or a matter of conjecture and outright doubt for the rest of humanity. Theoretically, it may sound a sound proposition but considering the asymmetries involved in evolution, especially, in the fluid mental plane, the supra-mental order of consciousness may yet be far off for present humanity.
Which brings us to the chaotic state pertaining to our times when we grapple with the carbon emissions on one side and the spectre of nuclear holocaust on the other. Man has now evolved to the dangerous plane where his knowledge of science may boomerang on him and annihilate him altogether. The human species will be extinct soon unless the awakening of higher knowledge in the realm of the Spirit, as distinct from the absolutist God of political movements masquerading as religion, gathers human concentration in the rightful mode to save civilisation. To this end we must move and the sooner we do so, the better for us. Hail Humanity!
