Superficiality has come to afflict us as commercialisation popularises culture. The downward trend is degenerate. Depth and dignity are both missing. Frothy talk, infertile discussions, a supercilious attitude regarding Hindutva by both proponents and opponents of it, shallow knowledge of scripture, of history, of anything per se, and yet an assumption of knowledge, of scholarship, a posturing of omniscience, so to say, while misquoting facts and figures, erroneous interpretation of data, subservience to relevant authority while indiscriminately ridiculing opposition---these have come to characterise public discourse. The whole idea seems to be how to cash in on every opportunity as capitalism of a degenerate kind gains ground.
