Has there been a greater exponent of Hindustani classical instrumental music in the 20th century than the legendary Ustad Baba Allauddin Khan? He knew Western classical music in great depth, having mastered nearly all the contemporary instruments. He was the renaissance figure of Hindustani classical music. But for him we would have lost much of our music for good. Ustad Allauddin Khan remains a perennial source of inspiration for all musicians and music-lovers.
When the bright sunbeams of life shine on us, we forget Him ; we remember when the darkening clouds gather. Must we be so selective in our memory of the One whose every pulsation is our existence, in whose love 'there is neither ebb nor flow'?
The Hindu is a misnomer, so is Hinduism. The dwellers by the Sindhu were dubbed Hindus and their spiritual culture Hinduism. Where has the Sindhu disappeared from the landmass of the Hindus? Partition has robbed us of our roots. Muhammad Bin Qasim was the first offender, Muhammad Ali Jinnah the last.
