A PALACE TALE
A PALACE TALE
A person built a palace at night with its hundreds of rooms filled with the choicest of edibles, entertainment and other objects of desire. He then quietly slipped away keeping the palace gates wide open. As daylight dawned, pedestrians started streaming in and became mad with delight at the delicacies on display and for free consumption as much as possible. As the crowd swelled, the available material of pleasure seemed inadequate for so many. Competition set in and fights started. This led to the formation of rival groups vying for supremacy and group-fights began. Meanwhile, some clever few began wondering as to who had built the palace and had kept all the tools of joy there open to all. They began searching for the palace-maker everywhere in the palace but could not find him. Then the most intelligent among them had an idea. He thought that may be the palace-maker had left the palace and had gone outside. So, he ventured forth from the palace leaving its pleasures and pains behind to seek the palace-maker out. There was a huge park just beyond the palace with lushgreen grass. There he saw an old, shrivelled man sitting on a bench smoking a bidi (cheap small version of a cigarette). He enquired of the stranger as to his query but met with an ambiguous answer. Upon further probing he became convinced that that man was the owner of the palace who had many more such palaces in many places for everyone. As his vision cleared, he was filled with a surpassing peace and bliss which he felt he had received owing to his association with that withered old man. He now felt the urge to communicate his knowledge and blissful experience with the inmates of the palace. So, the intelligent seeker left the park and went inside the palace to tell the inmates what he had learnt and how he now felt. But few listened to him. Most kept on at their greedy grabbing and intermittent fighting oblivious of the news that had freshly come from outside.
Such is our world and such our predicament. We are caught within the palace of this world and will not budge from it. Who cares for what lies beyond the walls of the palace cast in concrete and to seek the lush greenery of eternal youth and freedom, to forsake the puerile pleasures of the mind and the body and seek the bliss beyond, that of the Reality behind the phenomenal drama that is fraught with the dual syndrome of pleasure and pain and perpetual conflict and chaos? Who cares after all? 🕉

Were we sincere, we would have activated the Swami's principles with complete concentration in our lives to transform ourselves and in cumulative consequence our nation. We must overcome our inertia thus and forthwith set ourselves to altering the current status of our country in all its prevailing negative aspects. He has the grace of Mother but is in clear pretence, unclear to most but easily understood by the discriminate. Egotistical reaction in argument, overmuch of humility before some monks and priests, bad concentration when listening to Vedic shlokas (periodic opening of eyes), undue talk of own kidney problem, uproarious laughter that breaks the inner rhythm, disturbing walk through the city at night that creates problems for residents, unnecessary repeated talks on adolescent self-abuse etc. Mainly, over-awareness of the outside environment and the lack of indrawnness. Spiritual dramatis personae all. As you say in colloquial Hindi, 'drāmābāz'. Moreover, शरीरलक्षनम | From physical characteristics which are evident, the discriminate eye can make out. Besides, realised souls do not advertise themselves online all the time.

As regards Satya Dharm that to be established in the wide world, it will take a very long time as yet as the races of the world, varied and variegated, and at different levels of spiritual evolution, need that time to experience the hollowness of the phenomenal world and gradually come to the Vedic understanding how to make it meaningful and spiritual in the truest sense of the term, overcoming the superstitions that creedal codes impose on the submitting fearful mind. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Shivananda Aum : It is not so. I do have a universal perspective as well but that is another part of my programme, the missionary part. I thought you were asking me your question in the context of my Facebook posts in defence of Hinduism. So, I gave my answer relevant to that. As a devotee of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda and an ardent Sanātani, what you have mentioned is certainly part of my greater objective but my outreach as of now in this regard is minimal. However, that does not make me indifferent to its importance whether I am able to pull it off now or not. Many of my posts, especially the earlier ones of earlier years when I was somewhat oblivious of the political consequences of Abrahamic proselytism in India in the light of Thakur having accepted both the faiths, Islam and Christianity, as true, were pronouncedly philosophical and addressed the whole of humanity as such, eventhough even then I was unintroduced to the wider world of humanity as such. But your mention of it has made me once more remember Swamiji's dictum unto us, that of carrying forth the message of the Vedanta to distant lands with verve and vigour, an aggressive missionary zeal, for it would conduce to the well-being of the world. Thank you, dear friend from Russia, for reminding me of my wider responsibility towards the world which in effect will, as Swamiji believed, also strengthen the position of the Hindus in the Indian subcontinent as well. 🕉 Hindu!

The Guru (the spiritual preceptor) has been conceived of as the Purush who in His saguna aspect (aspect with attributes) appears before the shishya/shishyā (the spiritual aspirant) to initiate him/her in the science of sublimation of the self unto merger in the Self (Ātmajnān). Shakti in the feminine form binds and Shiva in the masculine form frees. 🕉

The commercial instinct seems to be rampant in society today with altered circumstance and declining morality facilitating the dominance of the copper coin on the corroded mind that can stoop to any level to sell self-respect in exchange for a handful of silver bars as Judas had in Biblical narrative engaged in. Here, of course, the Christ betrayed is one's own conscience whose beats are taking a heavy beating these days to the individual's and the aggregate's perceived precipitous fall. 🕉

Has made a monkey out of Shiva, to quote Swamiji in the Ramakrishna context when the premier disciple was exhorted to write the biography of his peerless preceptor. In a like manner has been this brutal brushwork that has rendered a god into a demon, to put it in hopefully forgivable hyperbolic terms. Swamiji's message, though, is as usual matchless eventhough delivered extemporaneous.

'We' are no more there, neither 'nature' but it is 'The One' and 'The Being' that in 'knowledge' abides. No more 'we', no more 'nature'. 'Infinite nature' is a contradiction in terms, what in common parlance today is dubbed an 'oxymoron'.

Spraying about deflecting data and beating about the bush instead of providing a straight answer to a pertinent question leaves much to be desired in these religious discourses given by seemingly all-knowing spiritual masters. Of course, the deflection and indirect inaccurate approach itself proves the contrary proposition and produces further scepticism amongst the younger thinking generation.

Sugata Bose @Gauri Gopal Ashram : Love jihad because the Qur'an does not allow a Muslim girl to marry a non-Muslim unless the bridegroom converts to Islam. Hence, it seems these Muslim girls have converted their husbands before marrying them as otherwise as per Islam their marriages are in the eyes of Allah invalid. The girls have here avowed that they are namāzis. Hence, it is highly likely that the Hindu boys they have married have been converted to Islam. A clear case of love jihad then, it seems.
Sugata Bose @Harshita Mishra : Practise the Dharma under my strict instruction, observing implicit obedience. Build your spiritual life. That is the only way to influence other Sanātanis to rise in defence of the Dharma. Your life must be a beacon for others. This is the sine qua non of the hour. Your concern for Bengal is my concern as well. But the solution lies in accumulating power in silence as instructed by Swamiji.

Immerse the material in the spiritual to possess that peace which persists, which does not pass away with the flight of spring but which endures even in the winter of life when the leaves have fallen but the tree stands tall yet, rocklike like the Atman. In this inner divinity is peace that passeth understanding. The light shines within, obscured by delusive desire and an extroverted mind which is buffeted by the winds of change and cannot come to rest ever. Reflect. Then seek counsel at the feet of the Guru and by his guiding light walk within to see your Self, the luminous Being who you have forever sought in vain in the world without. Your Self, the Guru and God are one.🕉

34. হিন্দুদের সাহসী হতে হবে, পড়াশোনা করতে হবে ইতিহাস, জানতে হবে প্রায় ১৪০০ বছর কি সয়েছেন আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষরা বর্বর আরব আক্রমণকারীদের হাতে | শুধু চেঁচামেচি করা দুর্বল চরিত্রের কাজ, শক্তিমান জাতির নয় | ইহুদিরা যেমন রুখে দাঁড়িয়েছে, সেই রকম রুখে দাঁড়াতে হবে | ধর্মাচরণ চাই শক্তিমানের ন্যায়, দুর্বল কাপুরুষৃর ন্যায় নয় | শাস্ত্রপাঠ, ব্রহ্মচর্যপালন , সামরিক শিক্ষাগ্রহণ, সততা, সত্যপরায়ণতা, ত্যাগ, সেবা, স্বাবলম্বন---এই সব গুণাবলি চরিত্রের অঙ্গ করা, সাধু দেখলেই পায়ে লুটিয়ে পড়া নয়, রাজনৈতিক নেতানেত্রীর অথবা ধনবান, প্রতিপত্তিশালীর মোসাহেবী করা নয় | সনাতন ধর্মের প্রতি প্রগাঢ় শ্রদ্ধা, মহাপুরুষের প্রতি পূজার ভাব, প্রতিটি হিন্দুর প্রতি সনানুভূতি, সহায়তা ও সেবার ভাব রক্ষা---এই ভাবে নতুন হিন্দু সমাজ গড়ে তুলতে হবে | সর্বোপরি, ছোটদের সনাতন ঐতিহ্যের ধারকবাহক হওয়ার জন্য উপযুক্ত শিক্ষার দ্বারা গড়ে তুলতে হবে | আর হিন্দুর সংখ্যা যাতে না কমে, তা দেখতে হবে | এর জন্য কোটি কোটি ধর্মান্তরিত হিন্দুকে ইসলাম ও খ্রীষ্টপন্থা হতে সনাতন ধর্মে ফিরিয়ে আনতে হবে |
35. India's greatest strength is her Sanātan Dharm and Sanātan Sanskriti both of which are enshrined in the Devabhāshā Sanskrit. Absence of mass knowledge of this golden language of the gods has prostrated us at the feet of Asurs and Dānavs. The resurrection of Bhāratvarsh must be through the resurrection of the Devabhāshā.

And the scene in the spiritual world is far worse now. Said the great Abbot of Belur Math, "The householders are turning into renunciates by giving away their hard-earned money. And the monks are becoming attached to enjoyment by taking their money!" Sri Ramakrishna's principle of 'Money is clay, clay money' is being flouted today like never before as if it is no more valid for a spiritual organisation and its functioning in the social sphere. This is loss of spiritual mooring. If this is the state of spiritual life, what of the material in the rest of society where greed is the fuelling force for work and money the presiding deity?

55. Hindus must en masse study Sanskrit. This is possible only if Sanskrit is made compulsory in the curricula at the school, college and university levels. The whole country must be Sanskritised. Then and then alone India will truly rise to claim her Vishvaguru status and duly become Bhāratvarsha in truth again.

What you do now determines your future. Finite aspiration and labour in pursuit lead to finite result, never the Infinite to possess which is the secret desire. Labour but labour in love. Work but work as worship. Dream but dream the Divine. Renounce the little for the 'Bhūmā' (the Infinite). Give up little delight for limitless bliss. Serve to be happy. Be happy to serve. Everything is Spirit. Worship all all around. 🕉
84. With every breath chant, with every breath love. What else is there to achieve on earth, the pilgrimage of the soul, where karma resolves to nought even unto the divine end?

When through countless lives a million desires have in pleasure and pain been met, when the hollowness of this delusive dream of desire and delight and death in chase have been seen through once and for all, when the semi-satiation of earthly thirst has led the soul to quit the sands and seek the sea that hides the bed, then the soul's been readied for the dive within, for love to dawn upon the one. Such a one of harvest reaped and seeds unsown will the rest renounce to break the flow and seek within what lies in wait. Such a one of chastened soul and tranquil mind will brood on Me, the Lord of love, so sayeth the Lord. Whosoever shall love Me, shall liberated be, so sayeth the Lord, the Lord of love. ❤️
87. Our children must be taught the Ramāyan and the Mahābhārat and that too in both Sanskrit and the vernacular. Such sublimity of thought, such high idealism, such depth of philosophy, high morality, such flight of spirituality, such love, where else in the world will they get? 🕉
88. A true Guru teaches religion free. Those that commercialise religious teaching flout foundational principles of the Sanātan Dharm.

Fraudulent gurus galore are operating freely, minting millions while fooling people in the name of high-sounding spiritual principles which they themselves do not practise but use to good personal profit-making effect. It is, thus, imperative that the Ramakrishna Mission goes on a war-footing in their propagation programme, much like Swamiji wanted, that aggressive missionary zeal which the founding Āchārya of the Ramakrishna Mission had aspired for, hopefully not in vain.

94. আমাদের দেশের সাধারণ মানুষ কী সরল বিশ্বাসী ! দেখে মুগ্ধ হতে হয় | দুঃখও হয় এঁদের পার্থিব দুর্দশা দেখে | সনাতন ধর্মের কী অপূর্ব প্রভাব এঁদের ওপর এত সহস্র বর্ষ ধরে | এঁদের উপযুক্ত শিক্ষা দিতে পারলে আমাদের দেশ বিশ্বগুরুর পদে যথার্থ উন্নীত হতে পারবে | এখন এই উপাধি নামমাত্র | কিন্তু সনাতন ধর্মে ও আধুনিক জ্ঞানবিজ্ঞানে সর্বসাধারণ সুশিক্ষিত হলে তা যথাযথ হবে |
95. Attachment and aversion (rāgdvesh) forsaken, the aspirant meramorphoses to a realised soul. The freedom found from fetters was forever there, only to be uncovered, not created. Thus, all motion is from freedom to freedom and through freedom hallucinating thus far as fettered finity when in truth it never was in bond bound nor in bondage borne but was ever in freedom afloat in the Holy Trinity (Brahmā-Vishnu-Mahesh) and in transcendent peace in the One Beyond. 🕉
96. To see oneself in all and all in oneself is the goal of the spiritual path, its divine destination. 🕉
97. To be independent of external help and to seek only self-support within is the sign of the spiritual. They rest in the Ishta and none else. Such absolute inner absorption is their consuming characteristic and the bedrock of their character forged in pure gold. Their undying concentration frees them of earthly bondage as fetters fall to release them unto the One within. 🕉
98. Lapse of memory is a serious spiritual fault which must never be. Unbroken, uninterrupted memory of the Divine, the least forgetfulness bringing intensest misery, is the sign of the bhakta whose soul has been coloured by the heavenly hue which in spectral band encompasses his/her vision. 🕉
99. The realised soul releases. Sometimes the Divine appears on the human horizon and takes the aspirant across the sea of delusion. Few, few alas, recognise him, fewer still respond. While the earthly play or leelā lasts, the minstel band, they sing and dance, then in a trice depart for their divine abode while the clay-caught pine and pine for vision. Then on a dewy dawn the graceful one appears in shining form to lift the soul that had pined, so pined, for the union divine, for the union divine. Then all is bliss and all is joy and all delight in ecstacy. 🕉
100. Let not for a moment the memory lapse of your Lord, your God, your One Divine. Live in unbroken memory, in unbroken bliss. 🕉

104. This body is the mansion of the Divine, the mind a subset of waves of the Cosmic Mind. Know yourself to be one with the Divine and feel strong in that abiding belief, that conviction which is called fertile faith. Know yourself to be floating on the Gangā of spirituality whose Brahmabāri (the water of Brahman) at once absorbs all sins and cleanses the body and the mind. Purification thus achieved through daily spiritual practice and incessant remembrance of the Divine in turn leads one to the Divine, thence to the Ātman which the aspirant in essence is. Memory is meditation and constant memory, purified and perfected, the cause of attainment of Ātmajnān which is the summum bonum of all spirituality. 🕉

106. Humility means absence of ego. The ego blocks the vision of the Divine. Tears of love for Bhagavān dissolves the ego and prepares the aspirant for His vision. The humble soul in complete submission to the will of his Ishtadevatā is blessed with His vision.

LIVE AND DIE FOR THE DHARMA
We must live and die for the Sanātan Dharma but never forsake it for alien ideology or faith. Kshātravirya must unite with Brahmatej to preserve the Dharma. This is the national imperative today. This is the need of the world now. Abrahamic faiths have reached their dead end of conflict and chaos and must now pave way for a higher order of things. The sledgehammer blows of science have shaken the foundations of these faiths that are based on personal pronouncements deemed perforce prophetic, averments that cannot be verified by all and sundry, being essentially exclusive in nature, and must be accepted blindly as divine. In this age of scientific scepticism such faith-thrusts are experiencing tremendous reactionary pushbacks which are rendering them fragile and facing extinction. The Sanātan Dharma is the way out for the world now. Its experience-based, rationally expounded universal philosophy is acceptable as much to the commoner as to the highest intelligentsia of the world. As such it is binding on us Sanātanis to study our shāstras in the Sanskrit language, practise the prescribed spiritual disciplines enshrined therein, realise their inner import and propagate the truths worldwide. To do so we must cleanse our own body politic and rejuvenate it with the ambrosia of the shāstras. Thereafter we must spread out across the world carrying the message of the Vedas and the Purānas to thirsting humanity everywhere. 🕉

EARLY IMPRESSIONS
From early childhood Bhagavān Rām's truthfulness so appealed to me that he captured my young heart's ardent devotion instantly and for good. Later my love of Mā Seetā purified my soul. It seemed strange how Nārad Muni, Devarāj Indra, the apsarās, the devas eased between heaven and earth as if some sort of a divine ladder allowed them such passage. The impression made was deep. My child-mind took it in that the gods and men were somehow closely related, that ascent and descent from god-body to human-body and vice versa was owing to bad or good deeds. Rāmāyan and Mahābhārat made men and the gods kith and kin, especially since the Pāndavas were the sons of gods as was Bhishma that of Mā Gangā. The epics made such a deep impression on my child-mind that I forever befriended the gods, a psychological fact that helped me in my spiritual quest later on in early youth when Ramakrishna-Vivekananda impregnated my soul. Realisations deepened and have ever since been widening as well as the gamut of Sanātan spirituality slowly percolates through my being each day colouring up my soul with every shade of its celestial hues. But it all began with those early childhood, almost babyhood, tales of the Ramāyan and Mahābhārat which gripped my imagination then and have held me in their celestial embrace ever since. I adore Shree Rām and Mā Seetā.

ছড়ার ছড়াছড়ি

সব মেনে চলি
কিন্তু কিছু নাহি বলি |
এরকম হলে যে
আমি হব পাঁঠা,
আর যূপকাষ্ঠে হব তবে
মঙ্গলবার বলি ||
তুমি হলে ভিন্ন ধাতের,
রাধাকৃষ্ণকলি,
কিন্তু এদিকে যে প্রাণ যায়,
কেষ্ট মারে গোলি ||
বন্যা হলেও পাড়ে পড়ে
ঊর্বরা মাটি পলি,
কিন্তু খরা হলে জ্যান্ত মরে
উদর অগ্নিসম জ্বলি ||
