AMARTYA SEN AT 90

AMARTYA SEN AT 90

Happy birthday, Professor Amartya Sen! Born 3 November, 1933, Professor Sen who won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1998 completes 90 years today. Best wishes for his continued participation in human welfare in the coming decade.

A glorious son of Mother India, Bharat Ratna Amartya Sen, here's wishing you on behalf of 1430 million Indians a very happy birthday yet again. You have done humanity proud. Generations will pass, new centuries will unfold but the passage of time will not be able to dim the lustre of your varied contributions to human thought. The world salutes you this day on your wonderful journey through the tumultuous times where you have shone in the firmament of academic thinking as a perennial star of light and hope. Your self-diagnosis of oral cancer and triumphant tiding over it, your deep diagnosis of the causes of famine and the solutions you offered to avert it, your secular universal values which you have espoused and lived, and above all your commitment to the cause of human welfare through your pioneering studies on welfare economics have placed you on a pedestal where the very best minds humanity has produced stand as your peers. Amartya Sen, we bow down to you in appreciation of your genius and offer it to you by way of our traditional pranam.
