HELP RAMAKRISHNA MISSION SEVA PRATISHTHAN

The Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan stands in South Kolkata as a premier centre for medical help, a hospital which is the life-line of millions where service to man is deemed service to God incarnate as man, true to the traditions of the Ramakrishna Movement. Set up as a maternity and child-care centre in 1932 by Swami Dayananda, a disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, the then Shishu Mangal has since grown into a 600 bed multi-speciality hospital that caters to over 400,000 patients a year. As the Ramakrishna Mission's welfare works are entirely dependent on public charity and government grant, it is meet that we, the devotees of Thakur-Ma-Swamiji, do something about it to help the smooth functioning of the hospital. I sincerely urge all devotees and large-hearted people to contribute to the cause.

The cost of medication is much and the poor and under-privileged people can scarce afford the cost of treatment despite the best efforts of the Seva Pratishthan to subsidize the same. A large number of patients are given partly free or fully free treatment at the hospital and this entails a large deficit every year. However, in keeping with the spirit of the Ramakrishna Mission of 'service to man as service to God', the Mission authorities continue to pursue the policy of free treatment for poor patients with whatever funds are duly available. As responsible and conscientious citizens of the nation, we ought to take it upon ourselves to help this programme of FREE TREATMENT OF POOR PATIENTS to the best of our ability. We need to help the Seva Pratishthan raise a sizeable fund for the purpose of offering succour to the poor and the needy who come for treatment at Thakur's door.

The Seva Pratishthan is the life-line of millions in need of medical help. But it needs enormous financial assistance for its maintenance, up-gradation and expansion. A sufficient Permanent Fund is the urgent need of the hour for its present functioning and future security. Else, this esteemed institution, despite its glorious career thus far, will forever be plagued by escalating medical cost and cost of maintenance. Once more, therefore, I exhort all of you to come forward and help the hospital overcome its financial problems through generous contributions. Please spread the word around to like-minded people among your friends, relatives and colleagues so that this drive to help the hospital becomes a veritable crusade against the inhuman conditions imposed upon the poor by rising medical cost. Let us show our humanity for once and prove to ourselves that we care for our sisters and brothers even as we care for ourselves. Corporate houses are also being requested to come in with generous contributions to the cause under their CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY SCHEME.
