BHARAT RATNA FOR RASH BEHARI BOSE, MASTERDA SURYA SEN AND BAGHA JATIN (EDITED AND EXPANDED)

Sub : Awarding of Bharat Ratna to Rash Behari Bose, Masterda Surya Sen and Bagha Jatin
My dear countrymen and friends across the globe,
Today, I come before you with an appeal to support me in a very dear cause which is explained below. Do read through and pull in your might to make this patriotic project a superb success.
Rash Behari Bose, Masterda Surya Sen and Bagha Jatin are three preeminent Indian freedom fighters whose seminal contributions to the freedom struggle have not yet been properly recognised in India. With the awarding of the Bharat Ratna to them, posthumously, this neglect of three of the brightest stars of our freedom movement will be righted to an extent and their study encouraged in India and across the world for the benefit of all. It will also help resurrect the true narrative of our freedom struggle and rescue from increasing obscurity the role of armed revolution in securing eventual freedom from the British.
Indo-Japanese relations will be getting a fresh fillip and sustenance through revival of interest in this redoubtable revolutionary, Rash Behari Bose, who spent the bulk of his lifetime in Japan after a daring escape from his motherland, India, to avoid the clutches of the British police for his revolutionary activities. He had masterminded the Hardinge Attack in 1912, dubbed in history as the Delhi Conspiracy, had led the aborted Ghadar Revolution in 1915 and eventually escaped by sea to Japan in the guise of a P.N. Tagore. Here in Japan he was hounded by the Japanese Police for several years before he settled down as a Japanese citizen, married a Japanese girl, and kept at his revolutionary plotting to end British rule in India. Eventually, at the height of the Second World War, in 1942, he founded the Indian Independence League and the Indian National Army whose reins he handed over the following year to Subhas Chandra Bose. The INA assault, thereafter, against the British Raj catalysed the end of colonial rule in India.
The armed insurrection led by Bagha Jatin at Balasore in 1915 is a glorious chapter in the annals of our struggle for independence. Had it not been for internal treachery, the revolution that had been planned with German arms' help would have put paid to the British Empire in India in 1915. Bagha Jatin, along with his associates, died a martyr's death but, even in failure to liberate India, left behind a legacy for future revolutionaries to gain inspiration from and carry on the armed struggle for independence.
In 1930 Masterda Surya Sen and his young associates led an assault on the British Raj in Chittagong, raiding the armoury and liberating the city for three days. On the night of 18 April the revolutionaries took control of the Dampara Police Armoury, the Pahartali Auxiliary Force Armoury, the Telephone and the Telegraph Centre, and uprooted the railway tracks at the Laksam Junction to disconnect Chittagong from the rest of Bengal. They hoisted the Indian National Flag over Chittagong, cut off communication lines of the British Government with the city and effectively ended British rule there for 72 hours.
In the famous Battle of Jalalabad that followed on 22 April, Surya Sen and his Indian Republican Army valiantly fought the British Army for an entire day before dispersing in the dark of the night after the British troops had departed at dusk, not risking an encounter with the revolutionaries atop the hill in the dark. 55 revolutionaries had held guard on the Jalalabad Hills with musket rifles and repulsed for a day a large contingent of British troops armed with Lewis sub-machine guns. The British forces met with fierce fighting from the revolutionaries who beat them back twice before suffering even the first casualty. But musket guns of the revolutionaries proved no match for the Lewis sub-machine guns of the British army and by nightfall 80 British troops and 12 revolutionaries had fallen.
The rest of the soldiers of the Indian Republican Army escaped to different locations. Some were apprehended and some killed in encounters with the British police. Others carried on more armed attacks over the next couple of years before the entire lot was liquidated. Surya Sen lived in multiple disguise for three years before a traitorous relative handed him over to the British Police. Sen was hanged to death on 12 January, 1934 after being brutalised in incarceration hours before his hanging.
These three episodes of the revolutionary movement of the freedom struggle may, thus, be seen as the three phases of a single symphony beginning with Balasore in 1915, carrying through to Chittagong in 1930 and climaxing in the INA assault in the period 1943-45. These were not unconnected incidents but were the parts, vibrant and living, of an organic whole, whose pulse, now feeble, now vigorous, kept beating till our motherland was freed.
We, as a people, must come together to restore the memory of the life and achievements of these heroic figures of our freedom struggle whose epic efforts to free India spanned over four decades inside India and outside India and led to the eventual liberation of our motherland.
I exhort you all to join this crusade to pay homage to three of our greatest revolutionaries. Please sign this petition and do your bit to resurrect the memory of these heroes of seminal ideas, sterling character and supreme sacrifice. In it lies our national good.
Thanking you,
Yours in the motherland,
Sugata Bose
P.S. :
Comments :
Prithwindra Mukherjee Most constructive petition towards rectifying who's who in the history of India's armed struggle for freedom. Let us congratulate Sugata Bose for this noble initiative.

REVOLUTIONARIES : A REFLECTION

When I compare the armed revolutionaries like Ram Prasad Bismil, Chandresekhar Azad, Ashfaqullah Khan, Sachindranath Sanyal and others with the votaries of non-violence, I find that the latter are no match for the former in terms of patriotic fervour and pure burning love for the motherland. The revolutionaries were real men, armed in sincere aspiration to drive out the British from the motherland, and their sublime sacrifice has no parallels in the annals of the freedom struggle. Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Bhagat Singh, Jatin Das and Batukeshwar Dutta, Sukhdeva and Rajguru, Masterda and Bagha Jatin, Rash Behari Bose and Netaji, where will you find their equals in love for the motherland in the whole of the freedom movement? They were simply nonpareil.

Bande Mataram!

COMMENTS :Rajyashree Chaudhuri I have already sgned in at the initial days of its launchingPrithwindra Mukherjee We must keep in mind the three strides of the same Revolutionary Time-Spirit that deeply shook the 20th century India: 1915 (Balasore)-->1930 (Chittagong)-->1945 (Azad Hind Fauz). It is like a musical tehai putting an end to the Colonial Era. I would be happy if the three could be accepted in your venture as a single move of the Supreme "bhagya-vidhata".Sugata Bose Dear Prithwindra Babu, We will try and bring about your idea to fruition soon by starting a parallel campaign but I am right now not too sure whether we should attempt it right away in the wake of the Rash Behari Bose Bharat Ratna Petition that is doing quite well. But I agree with you that it would been better and a stronger campaign to have begun the way you have suggested here. We will bear this in mind and soon make amends for our earlier lapse. Thanking you and ever seeking your guidance and inspiration, Yours sincerely, Sugata Bose.

RASH BEHARI BOSE : AN APPEAL TO THOSE THAT ARE COCOONED IN SELF-CONCERN

It is strange that, although, everybody professes to be a great patriot and seemingly espouses the cause of the revolutionaries, verbally as also credibly through real action, yet, they are so laid back in backing the Petition that we have made to the Government of India and do not quite adequately support the cause. This lack of the faculty to combine forces and merely be individualistic in approach in all endeavour is symptomatic of the slave with petty bickering its ultimate objective in this grand terrestrial existence. This lack of organisation is the cause of much of our downfall and it is evident very widely in our society which effectively retards our national progress and keeps us more enchained to the perfidies of the past than the betrayals themselves in real terms do.

Time it is to redress this situation and work collectively for the common good and for the restoration of our pride and prestige in the martyrs to freedom and the revolutionaries of sublime sacrifice. We cannot vouch that we are selfish patriots for that would be a contradiction in terms. One's patriotism must show up in tangible terms beyond all attempts to garner support for personal gain, however camouflaged the endeavour may be. At the end of the day the nation suffers our selfishness and goes down daily into the mire of material misery. We must, therefore, learn to combine forces and help each other in our bid to bring glory to our motherland and never consciously for ourselves, for in the glorification of the motherland lies our individual glory. Such is the substance of the martial spirit which Swami Vivekananda was wont to saying and such ought to be our motto : Sacrifice of the self for the common weal, obliteration of the self for the realisation of the Self.

May the revolutionaries bless us to overcome weakness for it is the weak that seeks self-interest and never the one of supernal strength! Bande Mataram! Jai Hind!

PRITILATA WADDEDAR (TRANSLATION OF ANOTHER AUTHORESS' WORK) ... NOT TO BE PUBLISHED VERBATIM

From the very onset of the revolutionary era many women had been linked indirectly with the movement. The womenfolk of almost every house, mothers, sisters, aunts, sisters-in-law, all these were then connected in one way or the other with revolutionary groups like the Anushilan Samity and the Jugantar. In the early phase of the revolutionary era Swarnakumari Devi, Sarala Devi, Ashalata Sen, Sarojini Naidu, Nanibala, Dukaribala, later, Indumati Devi, Leela Ray, Savitri Devi of Patia Dhalghat, Shanti and Suniti of Comillah, these were some of the patriotic women who devoted themselves to the motherland. Into this tradition of revolutionary movement stepped in the firebrand revolutionary, Pritilata Waddedar.

Pritilata Waddedar, who was a fierce opponent of the British rule in India, was a Bengali revolutionary and the first female martyr to the cause of the motherland's freedom. She was born on Tuesday, 5 May, 1911 at Dhalghat in Chittagong (Chattogram). Her father, Jagadbandhu Waddedar, was the head clerk of the Municipal Office and her mother, Pratibha Devi was busy tending a large household of six children, two sons, Madhusudan and Santosh, and four daughters, Pritilata, Kanaklata, Shantilata and Ashalata. The family surname was originally Dasgupta. One of the antecedents had been awarded the title Wahadedar which in due course of time took the form Waddedar, variantly, Waddar.

Pritilata Waddedar was a close comrade-in-arms of Masterda Surya Sen. Pritilata was admitted to Dr. Khastagir High School for Girls where she performed creditably in every class

Sugata Bose Do not talk without knowing who I am. This sort of misapprehension is reprehensible after I have amply clarified my status. Sugata Bose How can you be so sure about my identity when you do not even know me? And what an audacity on your part to say that you will take action against me? Do you know this sort of threatening someone in open forum unduly is a culpable offence in the eyes of law? So, get your records straight and stop maligning my own parents by making me someone else's son. @Santosh RoySantosh Roy আপনি যদি কৃষ্ণা বসুর সন্তান নাই হন তাহলে আপনার আসল পরিচয় কি ??আপনি কোন দেশের নাগরিক ???? আপনি কি চান ???? কেনই বা আপনি নেতাজি বোস এবং স্বামীবিবেকানন্দ নিয়ে নাচানাচি করছেন ???Sugata Bose Santosh Roy, what about the measures you will adopt against me for being who I am? Come on, come clean. Why are you hiding behind closed doors now?

Sugata Bose Santosh Roy, are you in your senses? Or are you so inebriated that you have lost cognition of anything sane and are now in the realm of hallucination, wild fantasy and plain refracted imagination? I am who I am, not answerable to you under any compulsion, and abiding in Self-glory which is your true status as well, that is, if you can understand what I mean. The human birth is but of the body and its identity is rooted in terrestrial human physical parents whose psychological selves are also beyond easy access for men to arrive at their true habitat in time and space. Inscrutable are the ways of the Lord, they say, and shrouded in deepest mystery is the origin of this myth called 'man'. Hence, your question, inadvertently deep, is the thematic query of all scripture and philosophy and has but one answer --- I am Existence Absolute, Consciousness Absolute, Bliss Absolute. You are but a child, Santosh Roy, and you need to be tutored in both civility and spiritual culture for you to be able to ascertain, far less realise, as to who you are, who I am and who your kith and kin are. All that you behold about you is the shadowy compound of name and form which you misread through the senses as men and women with human identity and attributes but who in essence are the cipher that dwells at the centre of this cosmic globe, the axis that allows the rotation of the cycles of creation but never quite is located anywhere in it, a hypothetical reality or a real hypothesis, a mixture of truth and untruth, that is (Satyam anityaa mithuni krityaa). This much for now, good boy, later lessons being reserved for a latter day. God bless you!

BHARAT RATNA THIRD UPDATE : WE HAVE CROSSED THE 1000 MARK, NOW THERE IS NO STOPPING

WE HAVE CROSSED THE 1000 MARK, NOW THERE IS NO STOPPING

30 APR 2018 — Dear friends and associates across the globe in this campaign,

We have crossed the 1000 signature signpost today and now there is no stopping. The campaign is on and we will steamroll to the 100,000 mark with your help and active support.

Congratulations to all who have thus far signed and exhortations to all who have not yet done so to kindly do so.

Friends, make this project your life's dream, the resurrection of the heroes of the armed struggle for freedom, and lend your signature, your comment, suggestions for better management of the campaign, and above all, take a personal interest in propagating the cause by getting more people to lend their signatures to it.

This is your project, the petition is on your behalf and the effort to make it successful must also necessarily be yours. Upon our labour will the narrative of the freedom struggle be freshly written and it is, thus, a national imperative that we collectively pull in our might to make a grand success of this endeavour. So, arise and sink in your ploughshare in this grand sacrifice that will illumine the pathway of future India and, with it, the world.

Thanking you all once more,
I remain your friend and associate ever in the service of the motherland,
Sugata Bose.
