STOP VENERATING THE BETRAYERS, AWAKE TO THE REVOLUTIONARIES ... 1

A handful of Britishers had the capacity to control the destiny of a vast populace by dint of superior powers of combination, co-ordination of wills and organisation of force, and by duplicity and deceit bordering on the diabolical, coupled with aid from hands of betrayal by a section of the self-serving Indians who, suffering as they did from inferiority complex to the white-skinned intruder and an equal villainy in perpetrating perfidy, sold out the motherland for the sake of a few bars of silver and 'tinsel portfolio'. The Briitsh used Indian hands to hit at Indians, Indian labour and resources to build their vaunted civilisation whose principal aim was political subjugation of free peoples for plunder of all that belonged to them, and the Indian armed forces to keep down insurrection for freedom of a nation disarmed mischievously and then maliciously kept divided to keep in subjugation. Gandhiji dealt them the life-blow by paralysing the civil machinery of the Raj but it was left to the extreme revolutionaries culminating in Netaji and the INA to deal the deathblow to continued colonial aspirations of the British in India.

Netaji saw through the British ploy of using the loyalty of the Indian armed forces to keep India in subjection and he set about undermining this British basis of power over Indians. It is strange that what he saw clearly over near a century ago, the Indian intelligentsia is unable to see even today as they go about propagating the Gandhian myth of non-violence and truth force --- whatever the latter may have meant in the light of the falsities involved since the very first false promise of independence within a year of initiation of non-cooperation made by the Mahatma --- being the cause of India's liberation and in the same vein either completely ignoring Netaji's seminal role in national liberation or taking care to spread calumny against him as being a misguided idealist, a quasi-fascist, an arrogant revolutionary in the dictatorial mode, a fatally flawed hero with a monumental ego that was intolerant of opposition and self-crippled by massive incompetence as a martial leader, and what not.

I remember a venerable senior monk of the Ramakrishna Mission once responding to a question of mine regarding this as follows :

Me : Maharaj, will the nation forget Netaji after all?

Swami : No, he will not be forgotten. Netaji was a 'veer' (the valorous one) and when our motherland gives birth to 'veer putra, veer kanya' (valorous sons and daughters) unlike as of now when only cowards by the hordes are being born, then shall the nation awake to him. Such a day is coming generations hence, Swamiji had prophesied, and they will re-evaluate history. Then shall Netaji occupy pride of place in the annals of Indian history and then shall the nation rise as well.

The Swami said the words with such force that they have been forever etched in my memory and serve to provide me solace when I see these heartless intellectuals perverting history and rational thinking to serve their nefarious ends at the expense of the hero and I wonder then if such betrayal by free citizens even today do not indicate sufficiently why so many of our countrymen betrayed the revolutionaries to the British to serve their selfish interests and, so, perpetuate our bondage to the foreign usurper.

End of Part 1 ... to be continued
