This letter seems to be a fabricated one and possibly has no historical truth about it. Judging from the rough English with improper syntax used here, it does not seem to have been penned by Jawaharlal Nehru of refined linguistic attainments, as the letter, however, claims it to be, using very poor replication modes. Even the very spelling 'Attlee' is wrongly attributed here as 'Attle'. Grammatical errors galore, faulty format --- all these expose the dubious character of the letter and do a disservice to both Nehru and Netaji.
The reason why I have decided to bring up this issue for discussion is to clarify the air of such concoction and bring to light social media aberrations regarding seminal personalities which should make us more circumspect in acceptance of them as Gospel truth.
This letter seems a lie as has been aptly pointed out by many well-informed eminent citizens having a modicum of historical knowledge, and when people, gullible as they are, are led into believing such arrant nonsensical stuff in the name of blind fury against Nehru and blind adulation of Netaji, they betray their lack of knowledge of the life and work of both. Let us, therefore, be rational, reasonable and civilised in our approach to the study, analysis and understanding of the history of the freedom struggle instead of being subject to the inertial cacophony that characterises our so-called worshipful attitude to one of the greatest freedom fighters the world has ever seen. Netaji was a supremely sane person and would have had nothing of the incessant vitriol that keeps discussion on him alive so often these days in quite a negative way. He would have rather wished for civilised discourse to understand the ills that plague our nation and the adoption of affirmative plans and programmes to remedy them.
In summation then, let me aver that falsities and fabrications and calumny cast on political opponents of Netaji need not deviate discourse on our beloved leader and dilute our efforts to render him historical justice at a time when the nation is in critical need of the true narrative of its recent history of the freedom struggle. Vande Mataram! Jai Hind!
