HINDU RENAISSANCE ... 1

This group aims to propagate the principles of Hinduism and make the world aware of the glory of the Hindu civilization. Hinduism holds the key to the highest spiritual principles and the Hindu way of living may be the way the world may be saved from impending destruction at the hands of religious fanaticism and intolerant totalitarianism. The Hindus as a race have been the most peaceful in world history and, as such, a resurgence of Hindu culture is the urgent need of the hour both from the standpoint of our national security as also from the global standpoint. The world is in dire need of the pristine principles of the Vedas for its very survival. Hence, the objective of this group is to promote vigorously the fundamental tenets of Hinduism in both its theoretical and practical aspects.
Our Motherland has been partitioned once on the basis of religion, the Hindu-Muslim divide, as existent in the then political conditions and we can ill-afford to have another such divide in the future. Hence, the integrity of the nation demands the strengthening of its age-old Hindu culture of universal acceptance and democracy of the spirit. Hindus must not weaken themselves through caste divisions any more but must rather help each other to bring about national solidarity. This effort will not be exclusive but must include all like-minded citizens of the land who wish to participate in the process of nation-building. Sanskrit should be made the national language and its study must be made compulsory for all Hindus. Only then will Hindus become aware of their true heritage and will learn to conduct themselves like true sons and daughters of the soil.

HINDU RENAISSANCE ... 2

Hindus must cast aside caste identity and stand together as a cohesive unit if they are to survive as a race. These caste divisions have served their purpose, and often gloriously so, but have now outlived their utility. They are weakening the fabric of Hindu society and stand as the great bar towards attainment of social unity within the Hindu fold. The lower castes have suffered great tyranny at the hands of upper caste Hindus and have been often so marginalized down the ages that they have fallen easy victim to Muslim and Christian conversion conspiracies. These are proselytizing religions that thrive on inducing members of other religions to join their fold to bolster their ranks. Economic inducement, malicious propaganda and political enforcement by conquering races have all played their due roles in wooing lower caste Hindus away from their fold into the rank and file of these Semitic religions. But the worst offenders have been the Hindus themselves. Instead of lending a sympathetic helping hand to these hapless fellow Hindus, the upper caste Hindus have historically only rained scorn, atrocity and alienation on them, even denying them basic living conditions to survive with any semblance of human dignity. Like animals these children of God have been treated down the ages and made to labour for their upper caste social masters till they have lost their individuality. The consequence of this terrible neglect of the masses has been the weakening of the nation and it falling a victim eventually to the Mohammedan invasion which began a 850 year period of alien tyranny ending with that most vicious rule of the British lasting for the last 190 years of this dark phase of Hindu history. But the Lord has been kind and once more we are free as a race and a nation although we have received a truncated India by way of independence. Nonetheless, we now have the chance to rectify our past mistakes and start afresh to rebuild our Hindu culture. The civilization that began on the banks of the Indus (Sindhu), the Ganga and the Saraswati had flourished for over four thousand years before its pulse weakened and it went into its shell to preserve its sanctity and character. The hindrances that came in the way of its free expression during the Muslim period and the British period are now no more and we stand as a sovereign nation with the opportunity and the power at our disposal to shape our own destiny, that of fulfilling the evolution of our race in line with the master plan of our Vedic sages and seers. It is thus meet that we Hindus realize the gravity of the moment and start the process of rebuilding our ancient civilization which through foreign thrust has been much wounded and which may be restored to its pristine state only by the healing touch of mutual love and respect, service and care, renunciation and realization. Following in the foot-steps of our Rishis and Avatars down the ages we must again come up as the premier spiritual people of the world and shine on world civilization as a beacon of light. To the ushering in of such a day let us pledge ourselves and let us in accordance start pouring in our labour of love for our beloved Motherland that she may occupy premier place in the comity of nations. Jai Hind!

WHO CARES TO GO IN?

Inwardness is the primary condition of spirituality and that begins by learning to love how to stay at home after the day's work is done. The mind must be trained to look inward and and that can never happen if one is in the midst of frivolous enjoyment of the senses all the time. The student must study, the householder must work and the retired man must contemplate the Divine. The object of life is Self-realization through education from experience, both internal and external. Work must overcome inertia and wisdom must consume work. Then will come true inaction which is the highest mode of phenomenal living with action proceeding out of the impulse for world-welfare without attachment or proprietorship. A free flow of spontaneous execution of work by Nature through the agency of the mortal coil having no vestige of egotism clinging to it and having no residuum of effect on the soul is the essence of such detached performance of work and is verily the living-free state. Action now is inaction and inaction the intensest action. This is the depth-condition of the soul where surface waves have no access and the disturbances thereof are no more. The mind in this deeper realm feeds on the superconscious and often dissolves in the process to reveal the luminous Self by whose light the universe is lit up. This inwardness, this awareness of the deeper self, this diving into the inner recesses of the Being forms the core principle of spirituality and is the basis of ethics, discovery of the higher laws of existence and of whatever is good and noble in life and living. Renunciation is, thus, the life-line of spirituality and sacrifice the watchword of civilization. Without the inner life there is nothing substantial to religion or morality, nothing that can sustain man through the vicissitudes of terrestrial life where the blows of Nature are terrible and death-dealing. The life of the spirit is this seeking within for the inestimable treasures of the soul that otherwise elude the material man engrossed as he is in the pursuit of his evanescent dreams, the perishable commodities of life. The inner life opening, the gateway to freedom is thrown open. Mortal man is no more captive within the confines of the body and the mind but is free to soar high into 'that heaven of freedom' whence there is no more a return to this terrible quagmire of relativity where death stalks all and fear rules the life of things. Care must, thus, be taken to restrict the outward flow of our mind and we must consciously traverse within ourselves, deep within the soul of our existence to be free and blissful, fearless and blessed, unfettered radiant beings rambling through the play-field of phenomena careless of consequence for we have burnt the very seed of desire and attained to kaivalya (the lonesome, solitary state of being). May all lead the inward life and attain to peace and blessedness! Om!

DELHI CHOKES

DELHI CHOKES

Delhi is choking. Yet, inhabitants of Delhi keep deliberating the merits of the Odd-Even Formula for private vehicles to be in operation from the New Year. While deliberations are always welcome, the way they are being conducted seems to indicate that the people are yet to awake to the fact that soon Delhi will have to be evacuated of its population if stringent measures are not immediately adopted to counter the menace of the deadly air pollution that threatens the life of the capital city of our country. Now is not the time for idle deliberation but is the time for emergency action. The people have been made aware of the menace of air pollution much faster and in a much more effective way by them being prospectively subjected to the inconvenience of delimitation of private vehicular commuting. How far the Odd-Even Formula will work in combating the poor air quality obtaining in Delhi remains to be seen but a beginning will have been made from where the adoption of further measures may follow which hopefully will be more effective. Any restraint on air pollution needs to be welcomed now as there may still be time to just about redress the badly tilted balance. Any further delay may prove catastrophic as, at the current rate of growing pollution, Delhi soon will become uninhabitable. It is time to wake up and start working to reset the air quality of Delhi which is now the most polluted city of the world.

PLANT TREES

Ultimately, the air pollution problem may be traced back to the indiscriminate felling of trees in man’s mad bid for urbanization. Trees photosynthesize to remove carbon dioxide, liberate oxygen and transpire water vapour to usher in rain which cleanses the atmosphere. The sidewalks of Delhi are denuded of trees as massive building projects spew dust into the air. Vehicular pollution is an added menace, especially those that run on diesel which emits seven times more pollutant into the air than petrol. Trucks commute through the avenues of Delhi whole night at an alarming frequency damaging the air quality dangerously. The rapid growth of industry, the high population and its concomitant demands on the city’s environ and the recent cold-wave sweeping across North India have made Delhi’s air toxic beyond parallel and needs immediacy of emergency action and a long-term action plan to back it up if our capital city is ever to be environmentally healthful. The government of India must make it mandatory for corporate houses to plant trees by way of CSR to the tune of 1% of their net profit over and above the 2% they are liable to spend as of now. It should be the top priority of the governments, both at the Centre and the States to go about a massive tree-plantation programme. Children should be taught gardening in schools and practical gardening should be included as a subject in all school curricula.

CITIZEN'S PARTICIPATION

The crux of the problem is that the average man is neither aware nor willing to take the lead and do something to combat the menace of pollution. Selfishness is the root of desire and desire the impelling motive for consumerism which in turn is the cause of pollution. Limiting desires through spiritual awakening will result in change in life-style and help to curb pollution. Human need should be catered to and not human greed. Exploitative capitalism and its concomitant evils coupled with the demands of an ever-exploding population is the root cause of the damage to the environment. But in the current global scenario there seems to be no alternative to capitalism in some form or the other. Hence, the welfare element, which theoretically is the hallmark of the Indian economy, needs to be activated on a grand scale and governmental effort needs to be backed up by citizen's participation to bring about a transformation in the current status of the air quality obtaining in Delhi and elsewhere in India. Every Indian must commit himself/herself to the health of the environment and must pledge his/her service to the nation to clean up the air. Else, we shall all share a catastrophic common fate.

HOPE

We cannot give up without a valiant effort to clear up the mess we have landed ourselves in. We must conjointly work with a united resolve to clean up the air we breathe. Success is bound to come if we stand united on this front. Hope is the single attribute that failed to escape the box of Pandora. It is abreast in us and shall be the springboard for our actions as we endeavour to bring back the air quality in Delhi and other polluted cities and towns to normalcy. Every act undertaken in this bid is welcome and is the harbinger of a brighter day, a clearer air and a bluer sky. Let us hope that such a day soon dawns on us and may we work incessantly towards the ushering in of such a dawn. Jai Hind!

WOE UNTO THE NATION!

When Parliamentarians behave worse than naughty school children and the business of the nation is held to ransom, one wonders what sort of an independence we have achieved through all our trials and tribulations, the sacrifice of the masses over the years and the blood spilt from the bodies of our countless martyrs whose only dream was to liberate us from the shackles of political servitude, economic deprivation and social subjection. One watches with horror the proceedings of Parliament as members charge into the Well of the House, throw paper at the Chair and generally disrupt the functioning of the house through sloganeering, often a monotonous, irritating drone and often a belligerent barrage of verbal vehemence outstripping the standards of Parliamentary decorum. Such irresponsible conduct of the law-makers of the land sets such a low standard of civic behaviour that the youth of the nation have nothing worthwhile to learn from their political leaders and the nation at large can scarce reconcile to the gross wastage of legislative time in pursuance of petty politicking by the people’s representatives. A total of 11 bills were passed in the Lok Sabha and only 3 were passed in the Rajya Sabha which was the worst hit by continuous ruckus caused by the Opposition benches. The nation is on the move and India is fast becoming a global economic powerhouse. But this progress is being significantly retarded by the indiscriminate indiscipline of our lawmakers. Parliament must formulate punitive measures to be adopted against errant legislators who violate the norms of the House and obstruct its smooth functioning. Such measures must be statutory and auto-effective the moment such violation takes place. For instance, a member charging into the Well of the House must be liable to automatic expulsion from the House for the day or for several days or for the entire Session, depending on the number of such violations made by him. Such stringency alone will make our Parliament function properly and allow the business of the House to be conducted in the desired manner. One looks forward to the next Session of Parliament to see if there is any improvement in the behaviour of our esteemed legislators. Till then, we, the citizens of this great country, must carry on manfully our own task of building our nation in our own small way. Let our leaders learn from us what it is to be patriotic, what unselfishness is all about and what the motherland means to every Indian. We will proceed despite our regressive politicians and we will march ahead to occupy pride of place in the comity of nations. Jai Hind!

HERE HE COMES AGAIN

It is a hopeless task trying to regenerate human society without a prior self-regeneration, assuming, of course, that the present state of affairs, both at the social level and at the individual, is a degeneration of an earlier higher state of affairs. There is an utter destitution of human values today across the world, a phenomenon quite as universal as the environmental pollution that plagues humanity today. The task of salvaging the situation, thus, is an onerous one and requires not only expert diagnosis of its causes from the analysis of its symptoms but also the activation of a massive amount of spiritual energy that will effectively counter the evil tendencies of the times. Such a Herculean task is not for ordinary mortals to accomplish and is the domain only of an Avatar-like personality and his entourage. The times are, thus, pregnant with the possibilities of such an advent and we must gear ourselves for such a deluge of spirituality that is in the offing. On our part we must spiritualise ourselves actively to heighten our Self-consciousness in order to combat the challenges of the hour as also to ready ourselves for the great advent of the supreme personality of the age, the ideal man, the messiah of the masses who will deliver us from the tyranny of the times with his message of eternity and his spirit of enlightenment.

It may sound like the vain hope of the devout in desperate desertion of his post in life in favour of superstitious supposition of supernal help but careful study of the forces at work today in human society and the history of the world-movements in the domain of spirituality will lend credence to my thesis that the advent of the Avatar is due as the final remedy to the current discordance to which humanity seems to have no clue. Mere mechanical adjustment of the forces no more seems to suffice in terms of restoring their lost harmony. What is required is an inner adjustment of the psychological and, even deeper, the spiritual forces that are in operation at the world level. Hence, the imperative of the times, the necessity of the hour, the sheer resolution of the restoring forces in secret functioning within the womb of humanity makes the descent of the Divine not only a distinct possibility but an almost certainty in the minds of the spiritually discerning. The modus operandi, though, is for the vaster forces to determine and the interpretation of the descent for future humanity to depict.

I shall rest my thesis here with a plea to all devotees to align themselves with the massive action plan of Swami Vivekananda and his twin motto of Self-realisation and world-welfare through renunciation and service. Only then may we save the world from utter annihilation and resurrect the hopes of humanity for a brighter future and a safer home, planet earth, for we must never forget that the messiah ever manifests himself in the hut of the humble and in the dwelling of the devout. Unto us belongs his hospitality and unto us is the blessing thereof. May the Lord be born amongst us again to save us from the material mire and set us once more on to the royal avenue of Godhead! Hail humanity! Jai Ramakrishna!

THE MYSTIC MANTRA

The Ishta Mantra is potent. The Guru imparts power to it at the time of initiation. Besides, these mystic formulae were discovered by the Rishis of yore in their spiritual realizations and were cognized as being potent at source. Also, these seed words (beej mantra) acquired added potency through their repetition over thousands of years by spiritual aspirants whose mind-force enlivened them. Thus, a person who has been graced by his Guru with the holy name, the mystic syllable or the seed word needs to consider himself fortunate for he has been granted the key to attaining his liberation in this very life by reverential repetition of the mantra. He must on no account fail to chant the mantra regularly with utmost love and reverence for in it lies his highest good. The Guru or the spiritual preceptor is the one that unconditionally showers his love on the shishya or the disciple. There is no barter there. It is pure, unsullied love fraught with the highest benediction. The Guru seeks nothing in return for his tremendous act of taking upon himself the sins of the disciple at the time of spiritual initiation save that his spiritual child may attain to spiritual illumination one day. He patiently waits for that blessed moment and all along keeps clearing the way for his arrival there by removing the obstacles, the hindrances that lie on the path. Eventually, on the blessed day the Guru appears before the disciple in his supreme spiritual splendour before merging in the Divine who is the Chosen Ideal of the disciple. The disciple is sublimated in consciousness by the effulgence of the Divine before him before he is absorbed in its radiance and transported to the realm of freedom, immortality and perfection. The Guru and the disciple are now no more separate as they are both merged in the Divine. The triune are an inseparable whole. The mantra has met its mystic end. Now no more chanting, no more meditation, just eternal union. Jai Guru! Jai Ramakrishna! Om!

CHANT FOR THE WORLD

Devotees, chant your Ishta-mantra (the Holy Name) for world-welfare. The Name of the Lord is potent and so is the Beej Mantra (the Seed Word). Constant repetition of it will lead to purification of your mind-stuff and in turn help society through your holy influence. Moreover, the power of thought is immense. It can transform your surroundings if you are sincere in your spiritual practice. The Beej Mantra is a potent tool for the spiritual transformation of the world. You must have faith in its power and in your ability to help yourself and the world along through incessant repetition of it. The thought-force emanating from your concentrated mind will penetrate the consciousness of humanity and bring forth a wondrous change in human attitude and action. So, the highest charity you may practise in this world is to be spiritually sincere and active for the sake of self-preservation and world-welfare. May God guide your steps towards Self-realisation and may He who is the Father of all lead you all to work for the regeneration of human society! Jai Ramakrishna!

LIVE THE LIFE ... 22

Words, words, senseless words, frothy, fuming, toxic words, barbed words, veiled words, hurtful words, healing words, words galore everywhere, utterances meaning nothing. Words that are the fruit of vision, realization replete in transcendence true, such words, for sure, are the harvest of the soul laden with the essence of things. The rishi utters his mantra, seen in the depth of his soul, that carries the message of the causal world and the tiding far beyond. The universe is the expression of the Word, the Om that holds it all, the summation of all of vibrated sound, itself the non-vibrating source. This syllabic mystic mantra enfolds us all in its arms as we dabble in its derivatives the babble of the flesh. But if we redirect our attention towards this, our verbal source, our sonic origin and attempt to scale the heights of transcendence by penetrating this sound wall, then freedom is ours beyond the sound. Then all that we shall ever utter again, should we return to the plane of relativity, will be tinged with the flavour of the soul that sees into the heart of things and our words will be potent enough to bring forth transformation in others. Then, and then alone, will we be ready to do real fruitful work for the regeneration of humanity, not before. The babble will have given way to utterances profound pouring from the depths of the soul and our very words will be Veda.

Awake, awake, my friends and set about transforming your lives by following the blueprint laid down by Vivekananda. It is the need of the hour, the imperative of the times and the very basis on which shall rest future humanity as it grapples with the forces of darkness to arrive at the gateway of freedom, light and immortality.

LIVE THE LIFE ... 21

Devotees of the Ramakrishna Order, unite your wills to serve the cause of the Master. Live glorious lives full of the fire of spirituality such that people stand in awe of you. Your flaming character will be a beacon of inspiration for all and will draw them towards the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda ideal. The object is to manifest individual divinity to bring about collective transformation in human society whereby spirituality will be the vibrant basis of global living. Pursuit of excellence must include pursuit of truth, both scientific and philosophical, with rationality as the common denominator for all endeavour. But this rationality must not be dry intellectuality. Rather, it should be the bedrock on which systems must be built and existing systems must stand instead of fanatical faith in irrational assertions passing off as gospel truth. It is here that work must be done. Irrationality must not be allowed to pass off as revelation. Rather, the latter must be in fulfilment of reason and so, transcending it. But even such transcendence must be explainable in rational terms, so to say, and not arbitrarily thrust on humanity as the exclusive vision of a seer or a prophet. Indeed, as Swami Vivekananda had beautifully articulated, instinct evolved is reason and reason transcended is inspiration or super-conscious revelation. Instinct, reason and inspiration---these three are in an ascending series, each being the fulfilment of the one preceding it. Thus, the primary requisite in this path of spiritual seeking is for one to be founded on reason and not to subscribe to any faith based on fanciful stories which have no credible basis of evidence to back them up. And the evidence again must be scrutinized with scientific rigour before acceptance if it passes the test. This is the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Way.

TERROR AND THE TIMES

Liberalism is the need of the hour. Instead what we are witnessing today is gross violation of basic humanity, intolerance of a noxious kind. Politicians are playing with the gullibility of ordinary citizens and trapping them in their web of vote-bank politics. Secularism is the safe card for the foul-play of sectarianism fuelled incessantly by political parties who camouflage their dubious designs under the cover of offering protection to the minority communities but who in essence drive a wedge between different sections of society to suit their political ends.

There is a difference between patriotic politicians as were evident during the days of our freedom struggle and professional politicians as are evident now. The former liberated the motherland from her bondage to foreign yoke while the latter are perpetuating her bondage to factionalism. What India needs today to attain national cohesion is an enlightened leadership that can rise above the pettiness of the times and take the country ahead. Unity of purpose and resolve, integration of will and a shared vision of a hopeful future where every Indian will see the light of day in his/her life ought to be the objective now and for that we need a national consciousness and self-identity rather than caste or religious identity. The higher must supersede the lower and so must nationalism gain pre-eminence over all other considerations of religion, caste or creed. Only when we feel we are Indians first and then, whatever else we may be, will we progress as a nation enroute to peace and prosperity. But such an enlightened citizenry is a far cry at the present and the turbulence of the times seems to be our likely fate in the foreseeable future. Cynical it may seem but there are deep-seated, intractable historical imperatives for it being so.

Hinduism is perhaps the only major world religion which openly declares that all religions are true and that they are but varied expressions of the highest transcendental truth as perceived from different standpoints and planes. It is universal in its scope like the physical sciences and is completely impersonal although incorporating the vast body of personalities within its fold. It is the science of the Self and of the spiritual world which is the continuum of the material world in an ever-refining inward progression enroute to the Absolute. The three major Semitic religions, namely, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all exclusive religions which hold their respective doctrines to be the final word on God with Islam being the most conservative in this regard. It holds itself, arbitrarily though, to be the last word on religion, its highest refinement and the ultimate evolution of religious thought for it categorically affirms a dated personal revelation as the Word of God and that too in its final formulation, inviolable and sacrosanct. And herein lies the problem. When evolution of thought in the realm of spiritual discovery is denied beyond a revealed text and the enunciation or formulation of new principles of spirituality or the amendment of old ones prohibited by scriptural injunction and by political force, when religious stricture founded in singular authority debars human freedom to challenge its rational validity, when scientific scepticism which is the birthright of every rational being is outlawed in matters scriptural, religious growth is retarded and with it comes stagnation of right thinking in the society that harbours it. This is turn leads to intolerance, violence, forcible proselytization to reinforce unreason, and, war-mongering in the name of religion whose foster-child is terrorism, although, it must be averred that there are geo-political reasons galore behind such hideous impulsions as well.

Now, here we are at the inception of the new millennium, civilized humanity fighting like barbaric brutes on grounds of our differences which are but natural but which appear in our myopic vision to be contrary to our contracted conception of homogeneity which in our estimation is the highest social ideal to be followed in the name of whatsoever scriptural authority. Such homogeneity may never subsist at the surface of phenomena for variety is the design of surface distribution of life and things. Diversity evidently is the plan of Nature and needs to be accepted as the gospel social truth whereby we may all cherish each other’s differences of life and living as contributory to the general mosaic of society. Unity lies at the base of things and may be reached through multiple avenues even as the centre may be approached through infinite radial paths. The scheme of the universe once apprehended on a broad philosophical basis, fanaticism takes to flight and it is here that we must work to educate our children out of the noxious web of religious exclusiveness and lead them on to the clear space of rational discourse and evidential understanding. Then only will liberalism triumph over fanaticism, enlightenment over superstitious ignorance and universal sympathy over sectional sentiment. The world perhaps is too young in experience as yet to appreciate the higher principle of harmonic co-existence and will in all probability continue to engage in futile feud over earthly trifles thereby deluging humanity in an ocean of blood for the foreseeable future. But through all these vicissitudes humanity will have learnt its lessons alright and will have opened itself up to new outflow of light from the heart of consciousness wherein it shall stand transfigured, a divine entity free of the shackles of its chequered past. Then alone will peace ensue here on this brutalized earth but that is a far cry today, a distant call whose echo we are yet to hear.

Right now vast numbers of people are held hostage to primitive practice of religion seeking sanction from absolutist medieval texts that brook nor reason nor reference to time and place in their current decadent interpretation. Hundreds of thousands are being slaughtered in the wake of such revivalism of a barbarous historical past as the world watches in dismay and knows not how the scourge of fanaticism may yet be contained. Political expediency and human correctness on the part of the Western democracies choose not to link religion with this brand of mass barbarism and its agenda of global terror to get the better of modern civilization which it despises but the fact is that terrorist organizations like ISIS are founded exclusively on religion by their own admission and practice. To deny this in the name of civilized moderation could be dangerously counter-productive quite akin to the ruinous path of the late 1930s when the Chamberlain-Dadalier denial mode and appeasement of Nazism led to the Second World War. History should not be allowed to repeat itself for it requires but a spark to start off a catastrophic Third World War in a pronouncedly nuclear age when political alignments are hazy and unclear. A concerted effort must therefore be made by the West to understand the genesis and inspiration of ISIS and other terrorist organizations, their geo-political compulsions and objectives, their world mission of exclusive survival and propagation of a singular culture before the terror perpetrated by them may be successfully combated and eliminated. But for this the world must stop delinking Islamist terror from radical Islam. That is a naive approach to a complex problem and opposed to truth in the first place. Calling these terror organizations non-religious is a blatant lie and does not address the central global problem of religious fundamentalism. Rather, calling a spade a spade faces the brute square on and overcomes it to save humanity. In no way does it thereby compromise illumined Islam which throughout history has produced countless savants, seers and saints. Rather, only then will it successfully isolate the extreme factions of Islam from mainstream moderate Islam and build up a strong middle ground of harmonious co-existence for the bulk of the world Muslim population with the rest of humanity. The fringe elements will have then been set aside to the fringe once more to their extinction or else, if sanity prevails, to their future assimilation in the bulk of the mother body of humanity. Peace may prevail only then, not before. The motto forever is: face the brute, be founded on the acceptance and affirmation of truth and struggle to unite as a single human family with inner union amid myriad superficial divergences of approach to life and living on account of differences of location, perspective and experience.

Hail Humanity!

BLOSSOMS OF DAWN

Children are the fairest flowers of humanity and the hope of a human renaissance if only they be spared of religious and political indoctrination when they are in bud. Let their faculties grow in alliance with natural principles coupled with intellectual training following reason and evidence-based judgement rather than superimpositions of irrational dogmas of religion whereby their freedom of thinking is beset and personality permanently perverted towards unthinking acceptance of and adherence to fanatical faith-decrees. A generation of children educated the right way may end the pernicious maladies of the present day and usher in a golden age of humanity where peace and prosperity will make life benign and the toxicity of past ages will have been washed away by the enlightenment that will follow in the wake of rectified vision of these future citizens of the world.
The terrorist organizations and their religious ideologues are having a full meal today but on the morrow of such enlightenment will die a natural death through want of support from the enlightened citizenry of the world. The oblivion will be swift, scientific, natural and non-violent but the moot question remains---will such an educational programme be possible to implement worldwide given the current political imperatives? Nonetheless, democracies must attempt to bring to fruition this new academic programme on a war-footing if we are to avoid a Third World War in the not-too-distant future. Pope Francis is perhaps prophetically right that the Paris Terror Attack is in fact the first shot fired of the Third World War. We have to prove him wrong to survive as a species on this already violently challenged planet where environmental fever threatens to snuff out life before we have time to react or recover.
It is a momentous moment friends, my fellow earth-mates, and we must seriously ponder modes and methods to combat the terror from religious fundamentalists as also the peril precipitated by our gluttonous living and consumerist obsession. The cause of both is within us and the solution lies there as well. Human ignorance has generated the present crisis and human knowledge will dispel it. Let us then work towards the future and take the present stand not to pollute the minds of the children with the decadent inheritance of past ages, irrational ideologies, faiths and religions having no substance in reason or rational thinking with archaic autocratic pronouncements as their sole basis which one must submit to as gospel truth of an unknown God whose cruel fiat crushes life out of innocence and renders youth sterile. Unto us belongs this earth, unto us are bequeathed its bounties and unto us remains the choice of making or breaking our future.
Hail Humanity! No God is greater than thee that shall shape thy destiny. Now awake, O blissful souls, and take thy rightful inheritance of thy divinity and bring forth the true renaissance of the human race through right thought, right action and right knowledge. Let reason be the guide and love the impelling force behind your social endeavours and let an abiding curiosity career you through the mysteries of life and Nature in pursuit of truth temporal and truth transcendental, free and impersonal, radiant and blissful, without the trappings of tradition or tyranny, dogma or decree, autocracy or authority. Let the fountain of knowledge be free for all to slake their thirst and let true democracy reign in the world unhindered by enforcement, infringement or debasement.
To such a dawn, my friends,
I send these lines tonight,
They'll waft through the starry skies
To welcome you with the light.

IN THE WAKE OF THE PARIS ATTACKS

Archaic pronouncements of religion and God are holding humanity hostage to their fanatical objectives. Terror-attacks throughout the world in the name of religion cannot be condoned neither can the substance of their malevolent inspiration be overlooked by simply feigning to delink terrorism and the religious ideology that fuels them. An objective study of all fanatical faiths needs to be conducted by experts and scholars to arrive at a meeting-ground for possible harmony. If such a move fails as is most likely to be in the teeth of terrible opposition by these fanatical ideologues, then humankind ought to subscribe better to reason than to faith that is archaic, exclusive and absolutist. Unless vast numbers of people are rational and go about the business of life on the basis of independent thinking based on reason and evidence, that is, a scientific temper, a counter-movement that can thwart the malicious motives of these materialists masquerading as religious personalities cannot be set into motion. The imperative of the hour is, thus, to propagate the pristine humanistic principles of the Vedas and the Upanishads along with new age thinking which set the status of humanity above scriptural texts and the evolution of human thinking above fixed prophetic pronouncements. So long as exclusive religions propagate the inviolability of revelations perceived by their founding fathers and their flock submit their faculties to subservience to such singular superstition, large-scale reasonableness among them is an unlikely outcome and irrational misbehaviour climaxing in actual acts of terror will continue to hold the world hostage. The only way out is the imparting of scientific education among the children of the world but, even then, rejection of religious bigotry is a far cry for it seems that violence is fed into the very DNA of humankind and it will take a lot of sufferance and painful experience before humanity finally awakes to reason and truth. Till then peace be unto all!
Om! Shanti! Shanti! Shanti!

A DUAL THOUGHT

The only way to rescue our country from poverty and ignorance is for each one of us to work hard for her redemption. Education is the panacea. Widespread proliferation of liberal scientific ideas will rationalize the masses leading to peace and prosperity for all. Then the problems of socio-economic exploitation may be worked out in an atmosphere of enlightened rationality, illumined humanity.

Abusive language is proof of paucity of vocabulary, not of being protagonist of a cause. It is time to be civil in our national discourse and not profane as becomes the vulgar mob. Political leaders lose credibility when they resort to malicious personal attacks on each other, indulging in invectives to suit imperatives of the hour without a thought spared for the declining standards of public life that such irresponsible behaviour leads to. Leaders, now be led for once by decency and not by deceit. The masses are awaking. Beware!

MOTIVATIONAL TALK ... 3

What we need is to build our country on a war-footing. Religion that lulls us to sleep we have had enough. Now let the dynamism of Vivekananda speak in real earnest in our actions and not passive piety which is the trait of weaklings who profess the leonine soul in a docile way. When we suffer, we redress the issue with energy, but when the nation suffers, we issue pious proclamations of surrender of her destiny to the Divine. This will not do any more for it is hypocrisy of an abject kind. Therefore, be up and doing, brethren, if you are children of Ramakrishna and get to rebuilding our Motherland. Remember, Ramakrishna himself never gave in to passive piety but shook the citadels of the heavens in his bid to realize the Absolute in this world of phenomenal dreams. So, give up this vain attachment to the vanities of terrestrial life that will last but two days and then will be heard no more as you shall be rendered unto nought by the inexorable flow of time that will take you unto the dust whence you had arisen. Follow the twin principles of the Master, abstinence from lust and gold and help build the many welfare institutions of the Ramakrishna Mission. Unto you lies the destiny of the nation, my countrymen, and I fervently hope that you will acquit yourself well. India belongs to all of you irrespective of denominational differences and the Motherland seeks the service of each of her children, blessed and beloved as they are to her. Jai Hind!

MR. PRIME MINISTER, NOTE

In civil society we ought to be more civil. Outright denunciations have become the order of the day. To sensationalize an issue is often the apparent goal to gain public attention but it hardly ever is in public interest. Civilized discourse and debate is the crying need of the hour in addressing any pressing socio-political issue. In a democracy where public opinion shapes the flow of national life and dissent is constitutionally allowed as being crucial to the maintenance of plurality, it is worthwhile remembering that culture demands civility of discourse, discussion and debate rather than raucous rogues ranting.

Let us as a nation learn to be more disciplined in our deliberations and speak on the basis of carefully conducted research in a subject rather than hearsay. This does not imply that we thereby lose our right to respond to a given situation but it only is a reminder that we must not be so assured in the veracity of what we say to the exclusion of what others say in the absence of such research conducted by us. A decided finality on the subject of discussion before the facts are deliberated on is the bane of all discussion and must at any cost be avoided. Fact-finding is hard, fact-analysis harder. One must have an open mind to the discovery of truth and must be pliable enough to accept the verdict of empirical evidence however unpalatable it may be to one's previously conditioned mind. This is the scientific temper which must govern national life if we are to progress as a nation in the modern age.

Parliament is the highest legislative body of the nation and the nerve-centre of the current of national life. Here the highest decorum must be maintained and work must proceed briskly in national interest. If Parliament functions well, the nation functions well. But, today, Parliament is a highly dysfunctional body with a large percentage of criminals donning the lawmaker's apparel who periodically halt the course of civilized discourse at the behest of the so-called civilized leaders whose only agenda is to prevent worthwhile deliberations for the furtherance of their own malicious political ends. The lawmakers are the lawbreakers and what may you then expect from the rest of the nation?

Democracy is not just about exercise of franchise. It is the conducting of public welfare by those empowered by the people in a responsible and efficient manner. The entire edifice of a democracy is built on the foundation of the fundamental value of civic welfare. If legislators are to be aware of this burden of public welfare on their shoulders, they will have to be sufficiently educated and there must be a minimum qualification of a post-graduation degree from an enlisted university of the land as enjoined upon by the Education Ministry by an Act of Parliament. Parliamentary representation must be decriminalized with immediate effect from 2019. The assets of legislators must be scrutinized by the Income Tax Department and their findings made public. Concealment of wealth, if discovered, must be punishable under the Indian Penal Code and such legislators must be debarred from political participation for 10 years. Raucous lawmakers must be expelled for the remaining session of Parliament.

Only when the Government decides to go ahead with such stringent measures will these politicians learn to be civilized and the Swachh Bharat Campaign mean anything worthwhile for, as they say, 'Charity begins at home'.

AWAKE MY COUNTRYMEN, AWAKE!

Remember 1962 when China violated our territory? Must we not unite to prevent another such catastrophe? Indians we all are and, in national interest, have no other identity. Either we combine forces and remain integrated as a nation that can counter foreign aggression or we constantly engage in divisive domestic disputes and weaken as a nation till we lose our sovereignty, even if partially, to a power like China with its nefarious 'String of Pearls' programme. The choice is ours. Now, countrymen, decide.

MOTIVATIONAL TALK ... 2

The youth of India should make an earnest effort to make a serious study of the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda. In it are hidden priceless gems of ancient wisdom couched in modern language, easy to understand and backed up by scientific rationalization that make them convincing to the modern mind. Swamiji's teachings are entirely relevant to the present age, the turbulent times in which we live. He asks us to believe in nothing, to test everything by the standards of reason and to deepen our appreciation of the aphorisms of the sages through self-realization. For this he prescribes three things as pre-requisites. They are purity, patience and perseverance.

Purity is the basis of all study. It concentrates the mind, makes it fit for perception of subtle realities and energizes the whole nervous system that undergoes the severe stress of spiritual study and practice.

Patience is necessary for any endeavour that is prolonged and pronouncedly difficult to succeed in. Else, failure in the short run is a foregone conclusion. Success shines only in the fullness of time --- ‘kaalena atmani vindati’.

Perseverance springs from the aspiration for the discovery of Truth. With unbounded enthusiasm and energy one must hammer away at the citadels of Truth. Only then will the subtlest of realities unfold before the purified vision.

May all of you, O youth of India, awake to this realization that your country is dear to you and that you will dedicate your lives towards serving your Motherland in life and in death. Long live India! JaiHind!

WHO AM I?

I am neither Hindu, nor am I Muslim, nor Sikh nor Christian nor belonging to any community, caste or creed. I am just an Indian and that is all.

THINK

Maya dupes us to give us the experience of pleasure and pain. Then Mahamaya leads us out of the network of Maya. At the threshold of freedom, She bids us farewell. Whither body? Whither mind? Whither soul? What remains?

MOTIVATIONAL TALK ... 1

Let none lose hope. Each one of you is connected to the infinite ocean of consciousness. Blessed are you that you wear a human form with which you may advance towards God-realisation. Do not grieve if your life is not traversing the primrose path of pleasure and it is fraught with pain. These are ephemeral dreams that will pass with the passage of time that waits for none. And then you will be released, each one of you, unto the realm of infinite freedom, bliss and peace whence there is no return to this nightmarish terrestrial existence. It is but a matter of time. How long you must wait for such a blessedness to unfold is entirely up to you. Yours is the labour and yours is the fruition thereof.

STRAY OBSERVATIONS

Reservation made for one section of society will lead to the demand for such by other sections as well. This can only fracture society along lines of caste, creed, religion and gender. Rather, responsible governance ought to eradicate discrimination and make way for equality of opportunity for all. Only then will this country stand as a premier nation of the world. And a word of caution too. The government in the name of development must not capitulate before the exploitative power of big business houses. Capitalists have their own silent method of ruinous profit-making. The government belongs to the people of India and, as such, must cater to their interest and not to the wealthy who wish to be wealthier at the cost of the masses. Let the ministers of the Modi Government manifest character in their service to the nation.

We have to stand together as a nation. Hindus and Muslims must both shed pre-eminent religious identity and identify rather as Indians. Will we oblige?

Liberalism is the way out of the current tangle centred on extreme ideology. But liberalism has its pitfalls too. It often is weak and indecisive. However, enlightened liberalism that focuses on humanity and cultured progressiveness could be the panacea for today's multifarious problems of intolerance and doctrinaire violence.

Peace is prosperity. Let this be ingrained in every Indian as we step out into the comity of nations to take our rightful place. Domestic non-violence is the way. Let us be Gandhians in this for a change.
Development of the nation is the key to solving a mass of her problems but how will capitalistic exploitation be overcome in the wake of it?
Hinduism places man above all creatures and so does Islam. Then why must we fight over issues, however grave, to hurt each other? Let peace be.
Science is unleashing powers man has not the capacity to control. The result may only be annihilation. Compassion is the only hope, loving all the final religion if we are to escape the destructive force of science born out of hateful tendencies of the human mind.
Muslims should all over the world strengthen the hands of liberalism. That is the only way out of their present predicament and of peace.
Patel integrated India. He relinquished his claim to becoming PM though he was the overwhelming favourite among the Congress legislatures.
Monotheistic religions have caused more bloodshed than polytheistic ones because of their fanatical adherence to a single personality and his ideology.
The national identity should come first, not affiliation to respective religions. Hindus and Muslims must remember they are first Indians.
How well the Parsis have adjusted themselves in India! They have never attempted to convert any to their fold here and have been so peaceful.

Kashmir was a blunder for Nehru. Patel would have sorted things out. But the real blunder was Gandhi's non-violence in a violent world.
India stands in constant territorial threat from China, nuclear threat from extreme Pakistan. It is high time to stand unified as a nation.
We have to stand together as a nation. Hindus and Muslims must both shed religious identity and identify rather as Indians. Will we oblige?
Vivekananda's prescription for solving the India question was to go for Vedanta brain and Islam body. In it lay harmony and peace. Jai Hind!
Vedanta brain means vast catholic spirit going to the root of existence in a rational dogma-free manner. Islam body means social cohesion and fraternity.

TWEETS N TWEETS

We must learn to live with divergence of opinion but that does mean we must take a hypocritical stand on open religious proselytization.
One religion alone is true and all others false or partially true. What sort of philosophy is this and how may peace on Earth ever ensue thus?
The only way to harmony and peace is to take a liberal stand on life and living, respecting others and not adhering to blind authority. Awake!
Vivekananda preached strength and not paralyzing principles that debilitate man. Purity, patience, perseverance---these were his precepts.
Man must no more subscribe to archaic superstition or submit to authoritarian faith. He must reason out his philosophical position in life.
The world is in the throes of the emergence of a revolutionary new order when humanity will take control of affairs free of dogma.
The only way ahead in this violent world is to cultivate character, intelligence and spiritual strength. Only then may we combat barbarism.
Festivities are fine, they have their place in life. But love for all is the essence of it, it is life itself. But then, who cares to love?
When Netaji was betrayed by Congressmen and the nation sent reeling down the precipice to destruction, how he must have felt! To see India die in fratricidal war!
Humans are derived from anthropoid apes. Is this the genetic reason for so much of hatred that subsists in the world? Whither humanity?
As long as I live, so long I work for the evolution of humankind. When the final moment comes, I shall rest in peace. But now it is struggle all the way and no time for rest.
Futile will be any development Mr.Prime Minister unless the country's defence is first taken care of. Military strength a must if we are to move ahead.
The martial spirit of the country needs to be awakened. Manifestation of military strength an imperative in today's world, else, peril for sure.
How long will the Congress steeped in conspiracy against Netaji pose to be supporters of declassification? Hypocrisy has its limits but evidently not with the Congress.
India paid badly for the Congress conspiracy to keep Netaji out of the nation. Partition, Kashmir and Arunachal have been the consequences.
How is capitalistic exploitation that creates and perpetuates poverty among the masses and induces rampant corruption in society peaceful and non-violent in any way?
Gandhiji's philosophy of non-violence had debilitated our armed forces leading to our capitulation to China in 1962. Did he have any statesman-like vision?
Gandhian non-violence has led to India losing territory to Pakistan and China and unnumbered jawans. He injected weakness into the nation.
How is it that western nations have got away with impunity after committing colossal colonial atrocities over Asiatic and African countries?
Can USA in all conscience justify Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Can Britain condemn communism and fascism and yet fail to condemn imperialism?
We offer lip-service to Gandhi but are we Gandhians by any stretch of imagination? And is it feasible that we be so any more as a nation?
Politicians, wake up! Time to cultivate character a bit if welfare of the nation is at all on your agenda. Else, your days are numbered. Jai Hind!
Make the means the end so that the end may be the means. To think is one, to be anxious another. Thought refreshes, anxiety drains.
Nehru's allegiance to the British in keeping independent India in the Commonwealth robbed India of the sheen of freedom in a way.
The youth must be protected from decadence of all sorts so that their idealism does not suffer irreparably. Vivekananda and Netaji are the way.
Now is the time to remember Krishna's doctrine of karma-yoga and plunge into the work of nation reconstruction. Women and the masses, awake!
Is muslin weaving possible to revive or is it a dead art gone beyond redemption? May the Governments of India and Bangladesh find avenues of research to restore it!
The history of the nation must be re-written in the light of the findings from the declassified files on Netaji. Let truth prevail! Jai Hind!
There is but one way ahead for the Congress to survive extinction and that is to place the Party above the personality. Let them do so now.
On the auspicious occasion of Lakshmi Puja may I remind my countrymen to consider the well-being of our less privileged brethren. Jai Ma!

Share your views please. Shed some light on these issues.
1.What has the Government of India done till date to absolve Netaji of the Allied tag of War Criminal? Are we a self-respecting nation? Answer.
2.Why did the Congress Government destroy two classified files on Netaji while the Khosla Commission was going on? Is it not a criminal offence?

I invite opinion on this issue:
Had Netaji returned to India prior to independence, what would have been the likely scenario thereafter?

Although stratification of society into the four varnas has served its usefulness and must be done away with, its best elements must be retained.
We offer lip-service to Gandhi but are we Gandhians by any stretch of imagination? And is it feasible that we be so any more as a nation?
We must have a clear-cut national consciousness without the cobwebs of false idealism, weakening and paralysing notions of non-violence.
The problem that faces India is how to translate her lofty spiritual ideals into living reality for her people, giving them a secure life.
All contrary ideals and ideologies meet in the Vedanta, the rationale of all divergent philosophies. Oneness is at the heart of things.
Character-formation in large numbers of people is the key to uplift of the nation. The cultivation of spiritual values is mandatory for such.
Study of Sanskrit must be encouraged. In its literature are contained glorious principles of life and living that can revolutionize the world.
Humanity ought to address its problems at a fundamental human level and not at the superficial level termed fundamentalist. That is the way.
The British successfully divided India on the basis of religion. Are we now attempting a similar divide on the basis of both religion and caste?
Unless fanatical ideologies are effectively combated by liberal thinking by vast numbers of people, the country is headed towards anarchy.
The armed forces must be strengthened. Only then will our nefarious neighbours be kept within bounds of decency. The law of force they well appreciate.
Was Lal Bahadur Shastri murdered? If so, why and by whom? The Union Government must declassify the Shastri files forthwith to reveal the truth.
Will we never raise the question before the international community of reclamation of our lost land to China in Kashmir and in Arunachal?
Intolerance cannot be tolerated. Freedom of literary expression cannot be curtailed. Censoring literature amounts to killing democracy.
India should worry more about developing her defence against China than Pakistan. We should give topmost priority to defence when we frame our budget.
We are wishing Bijoya greetings now that the demon has been annihilated by Devi Durga. But have we gained any significant victory over ourselves?
When will the Indian intelligentsia give up allegiance to the West for a pat on the back by them and turn patriotic instead? Shame on sycophancy!
Declassification of Netaji files on 23 Jan, 2016. Hopefully it will be a Republic Day of a different flavour to follow 3 days later. Jai Hind!
The sun rises on the eastern horizon, the Netaji files are about to be declassified. O nation of mine, are you ready to receive the hero?
Why don't politicians across the spectrum rejoice that the Netaji files are being declassified? Why such apathy? Who loses from this one wonders?
As education spreads, as the media becomes more active, governmental high-handedness is on the decline despite incidents. This is democracy.
This is the glorious woman who gave India her greatest son. Prabhabati Bose, mother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The history of a nation hidden in secret files, shame on the Congress governments of the past! Declassify Netaji, rewrite history. Jai Hind!
Did Gandhi make a mistake in choosing Nehru as successor? Did the realization dawn too late when Bose's ouster had precipitated partition?
70 years after the disappearance, Netaji grips the imagination of the masses in India. The effect of declassification of the files will be electrifying.
Followers of Netaji, make a serious study of his writings. You will then be able to serve his cause better.
Dalits are not dogs neither are dogs undivine as may be slighted. Gen.V.K.Singh's remark is reprehensible and unbecoming of an ex-army chief.
Today Gen. V.K.Singh's adverse comment makes Brinda Karat react. Yet, the CPI had the temerity and foul taste to call Netaji Tojo's dog.
If India wants to rise as a nation, she'll have to drink deep of her ancient traditions rooted in her Sanskrit literature and Vedanta philosophy.
We have to build India, not any favoured section of it save the dispossessed and the underprivileged, purely on humanitarian grounds.
While we are rooted in tradition, its glories and its pitfalls, let us also shoot upward in rational enlightenment to foster peace on earth.
India will rise with Vedanta brain and Islam body. This is the prophecy of Swami Vivekananda that shall come to fulfil.
May we immerse Mother Durga today in our hearts full of love for all Her children of all communities and climes!
Netaji would never have had to leave India and seek Axis help had Gandhi and his followers not traitorously expelled him from Congress.
Unless religious absolutism is replaced by rational pluralism, peace on Earth is a distant call.
Secularists, denounce all religious fundamentalism and not merely Hindu fundamentalism. Take your stand against Muslim fanaticism as well.
Spread Vedanta to combat communalism the world over. Read Ramakrishna-Vivekananda to appreciate religious pluralism.
Netaji files are being declassified.History will be rewritten.Friends, unite to bring about revelation about Netaji.
Indians, shake off this colonial hangover of yours and rightfully reclaim your own heritage. Salute the INA martyrs and Netaji. Jai Hind!

Children, study hard and rebuild our broken world. You are the fairest flowers of humanity. Upon you depends the future of the world.
Indians must cultivate self-respect and not continue to have the colonial hangover. We must brighten our national culture and be proud of it.
Only when society as a whole rises in spiritual consciousness with love as the integral basis of life will war end and peace reign on Earth.
We are a strange self-deluded nation revelling in historical untruths. Ingratitude seems ingrained in us as we choose to forget our heroes.
