WEST BENGAL DAY (পশ্চিমবঙ্গ দিবস)
Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee, the founder of West Bengal. This was the day, 20 June, 1947, when the resolution to include Hindu-majority West Bengal in partitioned India was passed with a thumping majority 58--21 to snatch West Bengal as homeland for the Bengali Hindus from the vile grip of the All India Muslim League. The leader who almost singlehandedly effected this was Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee who in effect thus had partitioned the prospective Pakistan that was to be created by partitioning Punyabhūmi Bhāratvarsha on 14 August, 1947. The other plan of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Sarat Chandra Bose and Abul Hashim to separate a United Bengal from undivided India as a separate country was thus also foiled.
Today we, Bengali Hindus, owe everything to this great son of Bengal but have sadly forgotten his contribution. The newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party Government of West Bengal is resurrecting the memory and legacy of Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee after a deliberate lapse of 79 years since Independence by previous governments. It is bounden on us to study the life and legacy of this great patriot who eventually laid down his life in 1953 under tragic and suspicious circumstances in Kashmir with a Congress Central Government showing absolute apathy towards unearthing the real cause and circumstance of his death. It is upto us to research and discover the brilliance of his life and the dark secrets of his death.
My reverence and prostration at the lotus feet of this great Indian but for whom we Bengali Hindus would have suffered the servitude, tyranny and torture our brethren in Bangladesh have been suffering since pre-Partition days till date.

নেতানেত্রীদের নিয়ে অতিশয় মাতামাতি স্বীয় দাসত্বের পরিচায়ক, যথার্থ দেশপ্রেমের চিহ্ন নয় | আর যে সকল নেতানেত্রী এই মাতামাতিতে উৎসাহবর্ধন করেন, তাঁরাও স্বার্থান্বেষী, যথার্থ দেশপ্রেমিক নন | সবচেয়ে দোষযুক্ত হলেন সেই সকল শীর্ষস্থানীয় নেতানেত্রী যাঁরা বিশালকায় স্বীয় প্রতিকৃতি পথেঘাটে, বক্তৃতা তথা আলোচনা মঞ্চে প্রদর্শিত হতে দেন অথবা তার ব্যবস্থা করান ও বক্তৃতায় আমিত্বের গাথা গান | এঁদের স্মরণের জন্য, সম্ভব হলে চৈতন্য সম্পাদনের জন্য, শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের এই বাণীটি উপস্থাপন করছি | ঠাকুর বলতেন, "আমি ও আমার, এটি অজ্ঞান |"

বাইরে ঝাঁট দেওয়ার সাথে সাথে যেন ভেতরে ঝাঁট দেওয়াও হয় | প্রথমটি যেমন রক্ষা করে বহির্পরিবেশ, দ্বিতীয়টি করে অন্তর্পরিবেশ শুদ্ধ যার অভাবে রাজ্য তথা দেশের এই দুর্গতি | শুধু হঠযোগের কটি আসন রাজপথ জুড়ে করলেই পর্যাপ্ত নয়, সর্ববিধ শুদ্ধিকরণ আত্মদর্শনের উদ্দেশ্যে অপরিহার্য যদি দেশগঠন যথার্থই করতে হয় | নইলে স্বামীজীর সাবধানবাণী স্মরণ করিয়ে দিতে হবে, "In old age people become lying masks of men." এবার ভেবে দেখুন কর্তব্য কি |

Conversion to the Sanātan Dharma seems the only way out to save West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, in fact the whole of India. Dark days ahead otherwise. We, Hindus, face a civilisational danger today. We have already paid a heavy price thus far. Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir have all undergone near total conversion of Hindus to Islam. Now it is time to reconvert. That is not possible by cleaning streets and starting industry, all of which are laudable enterprises but do not cater to our civilisational imperative of saving the Hindus from being overwhelmed in numbers. What is needed is an inner awakening, brave and bold action free of apology, and restructuring of society along Sanātan lines, that is, the Vedāntic line articulated by Vivekananda. Science and the Vedānta in holy alliance must combat all proselytising religions threatening our age-old civilisation, threatening the lifeblood of the nation through their nefarious programmes of organised proselytism. We need to be Rishis as Swamiji has exhorted us to be and not mockeries of men masquerading as Hindus with trumpeting messages and ugly sloganeering donning our lives devoid of conviction and character.

দেশপ্রেম কি এত সহজ যে স্তাবক টেলেভিসন চ্যানেলের সঞ্চালক-সঞ্চালিকা তা নির্ধারণ করবেন ও রাষ্ট্রশক্তির নেকনজরে থাকার অভিপ্রায়ে সে বিষয়ে কপট প্রচার করবেন ? বাকচাতুরী ত' দেশপ্রেম নয় | তার জন্য চাই দেশের জন্য ত্যাগ ও সেবা যা দু'কথা ক্যামেরার সামনে বলে দিলেই হয় না | হাতে ঝাঁটা নিয়ে ক্যামেরার সামনে রাস্তা ঝাঁট দিলেও হয় না | জনতা এত মূর্খ নয় যে এ সব চালাকির মূল উদ্দেশ্য বুঝবেন না | তাঁরা দেখতে চান মন্ত্রীদের মধ্যে জ্বলন্ত চরিত্র যার শোচনীয় অভাব পরিলক্ষিত হচ্ছে নিত্য এই সব প্রকল্পের পরিকল্পিত লঘু চলচ্চিত্রায়ণে | মানুষ এর অন্তঃসারশূণ্যতা বোঝেন, ও বোঝেন বলেই সরকারের এ সব লঘুচিত্ততা হতে বিরত থাকা উচিত | আশা করি এ সকল বক্তব্য সঠিকভাবে নেবেন পাঠক | উদ্দেশ্য জনজাগরণকল্পে নাগরিকের গণতান্ত্রিক দায়িত্ব পালন, সরকারের নিরর্থক নেতিবাচক বিরুদ্ধাচরণ করা নয় |

নেতা বা নেত্রীকে নিজস্বার্থ চরিতার্থে নিরন্তর তৈলমর্দন করা দেশাত্মবোধ হতে পারে না | তার দ্বারা দেশহিত অসম্ভব | স্বীয় চরিত্র গঠনপূর্বক আদর্শ নেতানেত্রীর পদাঙ্ক অনুসরণ করা তার চাইতে দেশসেবার উৎকৃষ্টতর উপায় |
অধুনা দেশপ্রেমের পরিমাপ নেতানেত্রীকে তৈলমর্দনের পরিমাণের সাথে সংযুক্ত দেখি যা সভ্যতার শোচনীয় সঙ্কটকালে উপস্থিত হয় | নেতানেত্রীকে অনুসরণ করা তাঁদের পদলেহন করার সমার্থক নয় | আত্মসম্মান বজায় রাখুন | নিজের মর্যাদা হানি করে নিজের যথার্থ উন্নতি তথা দেশসেবা হয় না | পদলেহক কস্মিনকালেও দেশপ্রেমিক হতে পারেন না, উপযুক্ত জনপ্রতিনিধিও হতে পারেন না | তাই আদর্শনিষ্ঠ হোন, মাত্র নেতানিষ্ঠ নয় | আনুগত্য রাখুন কিন্তু দাসত্ব বর্জন করুন |
স্বার্থচ্যূত হয়ে নেতানেত্রীকে একবার অবলোকন করুন | দেখবেন তাঁরা এমন কিছু মহাপুরুষ বা মহানারী নন যে নিজসত্তা তাঁদের চরণে সমর্পন করে এহেন দাসত্ব স্বীকার করতে হবে | তাতে কারোর কল্যাণ নেই, না তাঁদের, না আপনার | বরং এহেন তোষামোদ নাই বা করলেন | তাতে যদি নিজের পদোন্নতি না হয়, ত' না হ'ল | তাতেই বা কি ? আত্মন্নোতি ত' হ'ল যা সকল কর্মের মূল লক্ষ্য মোক্ষলাভের অভিমুখে |
আত্মসম্মানবোধই যদি না রইল, ত' রইল কি ?
যে নেতা বা নেত্রীর নামের সূচনায় অত বিশেষণ প্রয়োগ করেন, তার মূল লক্ষ্য কি ? তাঁকে খুশী করা নিজস্বার্থ চরিতার্থের জন্য | এহেন হীন কর্মে এ যাবৎ নিরত আছেন, আজ হতে বিরত থাকুন |

Love is seeing oneself mirrored in another through spiritual perception of the same Atman in all. Unless the Kulakundalini Shakti awakens and rises to at least the fourth plane of consciousness, the Anāhata Chakra, where disembodied consciousness for the first time dawns and love and light, bliss and knowledge simultaneously manifest before the peeled-off material vision, love in its essence is not understood beyond the bounds of the body.
The body binds and does not allow the free flow of love which is why it degenerates so often into an admixture of love and lust. Pure love is a bodiless experience emanating from the spiritual heart and has little resemblance to aught of earth if even ennobled in sacrificial terms. There in sacrifice and selflessness of sorts a bit of the real love percolates through the cracks and crevices of this darkened mass of flesh and form, bringing tidings of a higher order of enlightened existence. But that is not to be confused with the Gangā of unalloyed love flowing from the glacial melt of the Spirit residing in Himalayan heights. 🕉

38. Too much of self-projection is not good. Governance is not television appearance or online presentation. It requires deeper commitment, skill, knowledge, character and ideological clarity than is in evidence. Silent work without undue publicity is worthwhile. And sycophancy of the Prime Minister must be rooted out. Do not forget this is a democracy where such slavish instincts belonging to an earlier feudal era must not find place anymore. Bengalis hold their language dear to their heart and do not see this sort of Hindi intrusion in a kind light. The BJP leaders should also improve their diction and be decent in delivery. The last fifteen years will remain a singular instance in anarchy in independent Bengal's history with Bengal's girl heading the movement. AFTER A LAPSE OF THIRTY-THREE YEARS

With my student, Prof. Anirban Guha (IIT Bombay), and his mother (Tuk Kakima) at our residence a month back (April, 2019).
Prof. Guha is one of my memorable students of all time who as a boy used to walk miles from his house to receive lessons, refusing transport that would ease up conveyance. His absolute dedication to study was exemplified by his dogged perseverance in learning the rudiments of punctuation in the English language for a sustained stretch of six months.
Anirban's reverence for his teacher (myself) even as a boy bespoke of a great academic future and this I could envision even in those days when he remained singularly significant among my early students of my youthful days. His mother was a model for all mothers and brought him up in a cultured Brahmo environment replete with the singing of Tagore songs and a short prayer (Brahmo Upāsanā) before Anirban's commencement of evening studies every day. No harsh treatment of a son for the occasional lapse --- and they were rare, indeed, for Anirban's reverence for parents was no less than his reverence for teacher and learning --- , no exhibition of foul temper or coarse language by way of caustic admonishment, no beating of child to protect his future interests and, of course, no conjugal quarrel of a vicious kind to violate the sanctum of the child-mind.
Exemplary parents give birth to exemplary children and then nurture them unto fruition, and such has been in the case of Anirban of seminal attributes and attainments today with a plethora of research papers under his belt and a galaxy of scientific scholars who have been guided in their theses by this unassuming Professor of acclaimed accomplishments by the academia. Blessed it is to bear such a babe who rises in self-effacement to such seminal heights. Blessed is the mother and blessed the father, too. As for myself, I consider it a benediction of Devi Sarasvati that I was graced with the opportunity to serve in my humble capacity this leonine soul at a time when both teacher and student were in bud.
A word more and I shall end this narrative. Beholding Anirban's dedication to studies and his walking the distance to our place, I used to call him 'Kolir Vidyasagar' (Vidyasagar of the Kali Yuga). May Vidyasagar bless him with light and life in this polluted age when such modern illustrations of the reformer's academic type are becoming increasingly rare!

My student, Dr. Anirban Guha (nickname Joy), who, when he was in Class 8, I had called him 'Kolir Vidyasagar'. That he left this world at 54 on my 65th birth anniversary (10th June, 2026) has been a tragic last meeting ground and a perennial occasion for future years of this annual day, my arrival on earth and his departure.
He was the best among my students, stretching over nearly 42 years now, with exemplary character and a thirst for knowledge unmatched. I remember how he kept on asking me to teach him the intricacies of punctuation in the English language for a full six months which, imperfect though I myself was at it, I tried my best to teach him. His reverence for me has been matchless in my life and the reverential delight he experienced in learning, the attribute Swamiji called 'shraddhā', was something I have rarely encountered in life.
Born a Brahmo, he would with his mother, Tuk Kākimā, who passed away last year and was spared this sorrow, sit down every evening for the Brahmo prayer (Brahmo Upāsanā) and then sing Rabindra Sangeet from the Pūjā Parbo before sitting down to do his daily academic studies. This was when he was a boy and an adolescent.
Joy was a relative of mine, quite an exceptional one anyway. He used to walk several miles to our place to do his tuition with me and after class return walking all the way home which is what prompted me to call him 'Kolir Vidyasagar'. The last time I met him was in December, 2024 at a family function, and the last time I spoke to him over the phone was when his mother passed away last year, and here I am now writing this little note on someone who has the world noting his achievements for good.
Goodbye, Joy. We will meet again for sure. 🕉 Brahma!

Leaders wear clothes that are too expensive to inspire respect for them as the friend of the commoner. Also, public money must be more judiciously spent. It is not their personal property that they can spend it as they wish and in whatsoever measure that they wish.
Leaders often rise from the ranks of the commoner but on assuming office forget their humble roots. They start behaving like Bādshāhs, thinking India to be their dominion and the public exchequer their personal bank which they can dispose at will. Arrogance has its limits and they are routinely routed in elections to give them their reality check. Unfortunately, one set of evil is replaced by another set and the vicious cycle of exploitation of the people continues.
The next aspect is that of truthfulness. A leader, however popular and by carefully crafted propaganda however big, promises far more than he can deliver. The result is failed expectations of the public in the end. A leader should first deliver, then talk. Nowadays off course it is ever the reverse.
Next we turn to character. Can one who delivers public speeches at different places across the country almost every other day, donning local dresses or headgear at least to mock-identify with the locals, speaking a couple of introductory phrases in the local language and then getting to routine delivery of hackneyed speeches, inspire confidence in the people, leave aside inspire them unto inspired living and action? Swami Vivekananda had said that 'in old age people become lying masks of men'. He was spot on. We are witnessing the veracity of this statement everyday as the topmost leaders, those with the highest orchestrated mass following, appear in expensive apparel before the public and deliver lacklustre speeches that are hollow and utterly devoid of character. What is needed is character in a leader but, alas, whither character?
Hence, retire or return to roots. But if age fails you, let fresh blood come in. Seasons change to keep the atmosphere fresh. May leaders likewise change too to keep the polity fresh.

1926. Tagore's 65th birth anniversary. Early dawn the poet received a scrap of paper from eldest brother Dwijendranath bearing the following lines :

Today is 2026, a hundred years on. This day so many have just completed 65 years. To all of them I send my heartfelt birthday greetings. And my prostration at the feet of all the mothers who bore them unto this earth this day, knowing that they all are the semblance of my mother as well.

I will raise myself by myself. Interdependence notwithstanding, the fundamental effort must be mine. Caught in this quagmire of material existence, who shall I trust to save myself better than trust myself? Drowning as I am in this ocean of transmigratory earthly existence, who shall swim for me to safety of the shore than I myself? Who can eat and assimilate for me? Who can live my life for me and who can die a thousand deaths en route to liberation than I myself? And whose bondage is it? whose liberation? Why, it is mine and mine alone, for all else is but multiplication of this Maya of phenomenal projection proceeding from my ignorance of the Self.
Bondage is mine, work in self-purification is mine too and liberation also shall be mine. All this needless dependence on others weakens the will and perpetuates bondage. So shall I cast off all aid save of the One that springs from within.
There is but the One and the Many are little reflections of its boundless self in the fragmented mirror of the mind. Cleanse the mirror of the dust of desire and the Self reveals in undiminished splendour. But the work, the austerity, the cleansing of the soul must be mine. This is the Vedanta for the modern age.
This self-assertion is mine and it must not be misconstrued as megalomania or arrogance. It is an awakening of the soul unto determined, disciplined action for delivery unto the Divine within which again is one's transcendental Self. In short, evolution is the progression of the self from the one to the One. Hence, fire myself up shall I and sip the elixir of life.

Never trust the atheistic communists. They care more for internationalism than nationalism. Just tall talk. They called Netaji something I cannot even utter out of reverence for the great man. Later regretful apology, no doubt opportunistic and fake, cannot erase the dark stain on their career thus. I reiterate---do not ever repose faith in the communists. They are anti-Hindu, in fact, anti-religious, but align with all anti-Hindu religious forces to attempt the destruction of our Sanātan civilisation and culture. They have failed in their so-called egalitarian enterprises in the name of socialism everywhere throughout the world and have only unleashed terror and tyranny in the name of 'dictatorship of the proletariat'. Their day is done. Do not fall into their trap despite your being dissatisfied with the ills of capitalism. They are a far greater evil than capitalism and must not be allowed space in our Sanātan Bhāratvarsha with their toxic hateful philosophy poisoning the minds of the masses against their own motherland, her heritage and culture. Like Christianity and Islam, Marxism is an alien system that is antithetical to Hinduism and Hindu interests. Beware! Vande Mātaram! 🕉 Hindu!
